C section in the UK - where did your partner sleep?

My hospital allows partners to stay overnight which is great as I’d really love his support. I’ve got everything else planned now as I’m scheduled in 4 weeks, but was just wondering what sleeping arrangements are like for him? Obviously not expecting it to be a hotel haha but im thinking more with practicality and logistics - does he need to bring a pillow? Should he bring bedding? Can he sleep on a chair or floor? Have no idea how this all works as it’s my first. My notes say to bring bedding for your partner but again don’t know what this really means - pillow and sheets? But sheets for where? 🤣 Help pls lol and photos of your birth partner welcome!! 😅

At Wythenshawe Hospital there was an armchair for my husband. A really uncomfortable one, the arms being wooden... He slept on the floor as it was more comfortable... Thankfully we had brought a pillow and blanket!

Our hospital had recliners for dads but the weren’t the best. He managed though. I was in 11 days too n he only spent a couple of nights at home bless him. Deffo take pillows, and take some for urself too as hospital pillows are the worst thing EVER 😂😂 our hospital gave my partner a blanket but you could take one anyway xx

I think it’s different in every hospital but for us it was a very uncomfortable armchair (didn’t stop him sleeping though 😂) The hospital pillows were awful so I would recommend taking one for you and one for him. We didn’t take a blanket, I had a few so just gave him one of mine X

At the hospital I gave birth at, they had a couch that turned into a bed and it was the same on the postpartum side of it.

Armchair 🙃 looking into taking a blow up mattress this time

A decent neck pillow like you’d use on an airplane was a lifesaver for my husband. There was a cushioned armchair but obviously not ideal for sleeping in. He managed to schooch onto the bed with me for a couple of hours but when I got uncomfortable he did manage to sleep in the chair for a bit. We have the Snugl neck pillows that we got from Amazon for a long haul flight and they are really good.

After an emergency csection and my baby rushed off to intensive care and me with a bad unknown infection they told him he wasn’t allowed to stay, after 4 days of indescribable pain and them expecting me to look after my baby on my own as they kept forgetting me (infection wasn’t getting better either) I had a breakdown and they finally allowed him to stay, he had the padded recliner chair and a blanket we brought in, but he didn’t care was just glad to be with us after what we’d been through x

At ours partners aren’t allowed to stay overnight in the postnatal ward but the antenatal ward had recliners which my husband could have slept on during my induction with our first (if I hadn’t been moved to the labour ward at midnight). I found the first night really tough, I couldn’t get up yet and so was completely reliant on staff to hand me my son when he cried. I was so glad when we got to go home after 2 days.

That is such a good idea! I know what to get if there’s ever a next time😂 @Abby

My husband got a camp bed the first night we were in cause it was a private recovery room but when moved to the recovery ward it was an armchair

The armchair was so uncomfortable my husband slept on the floor, we had a pillow with us
