Baby straining when trying to poo

My 7 week year old has been straining a lot but her stool is soft when she eventually does go. During her gp checkup they prescribed her with baby lactose but unsure on whether to give in case it makes her stool even softer. Has anyone’s baby had the same or tried lactose on their baby?

I was told straining was normal at this stage as it’s no longer an automatic sort of thing they now have to figure out how to do it themselves using the muscles and stuff. If she doesn’t look like she’s in pain and she’s still passing as normal I wouldn’t be too worried

I thought all babies did this, 7 weeks is late compared to others I have seen posting here. Ours started straining to poo at 3 weeks and still does, but not as much. It is normal development stage called infant dyschezia

I thought the same but thought maybe it’s something else as gp prescribed lactose

Yeh mine is straining and so did my first, I wouldn’t worry. Don’t give it if you don’t want to
