Returning to work (UK based)

My little girl died at 40+5 3 months ago. I have returned to work this week (I am an early years teacher). I am managing to put my teacher face on through the majority of the day and with parents with the occasional cry in the cupboard, but when I get home all I do is cry. Is this normal? Have I returned to work too soon? Will this get easier? I am so incredibly sad. I love my job and everyone who has walked through my classroom has said how well I am doing to not let my pain show or affect my teaching. But I’m just so sad.

Sending you the biggest hug. Grief affects everybody differently.. as time moves forward eventually things will get easier. Being incredibly sad is all apart of the process. I would highly recommended seeing a psychologist that deals with antenatal/postnatal care/loss. This will help alot with the process

Sending you the biggest hug, as this is just awful and I'm so sorry 😔. If you feel that you need more time then you take it, there is no time frame for when you feel ready to return to work, it's all personal choice. I knew someone who lost twins and was off for a year x

This is so sad, please talk to a professional and seek grief counselling. You’re very brave going back to work so soon but don’t push yourself too hard. X

I'm so sorry about your loss. I know it's devastating. Perhaps go back to work part-time and slowly climb back up to full-time work so that you still have time to focus on healing. Be gentle with yourself.

I work in maternity a very triggering job too… when I returned (after 9 months) I still wasn’t ready to return, managed a month and took a further 2 months sick before returning with phased return and a change in my day to day tasks (tried different departments and worked non clinically for a while). Whether it’s too soon or not is such a personal decision but there might be ways you can be in work, but adjusted to help you settle back in! Feel free to message me if you want to chat xx
