Transverse Baby and Waters

Hello ladies. Just wondering when your waters broke? I'm currently 37+3 with a transverse baby. I have been admitted yesterday and they were initially going to perform a c-section by the end of the day due to the cord presenting and the risk of cord prolapse. For some reason, the consultant decided not to go ahead with the c section and instead keep me here under observation until the 2nd of October. They said they are doing this for the safety of my baby but I honestly find this utterly ridiculous since I am now term (over 37 weeks) and my waters could break at any moment, putting both me and my baby at risk and leading to a completely avoidable emergency c section. I don't know how I'm going to spend the next 2 weeks in a hospital bed without losing my marbles!!!

Your waters can break any time in the pregnancy in reality. Leaving your baby in as long as possible is the best thing for it, likely what the consultant is thinking. You don’t have to stay in the hospital, you have a choice. But they recommend it due to the risk of cord prolapse if your waters do break. Have you tried any spinning babies techniques to get baby head down?

@Lottie they said spinning the baby isn't an option because of the cord risk. I can't leave because I don't live near the hospital and I dont drive/have a car and even if I did, I wouldn't have enough time to make it to the hospital if my waters break.

This happened to me in January, I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks due to the risks, with a c-section booked at 39 weeks 😳 I also had a 2 year old at home so mentally it hit me hard! I was very lucky and baby turned 4 days later, 48 hours later I was allowed home and then back 1 day later to be induced (due to gestational diabetes) I kept active walking the corridors and they scanned me every 12 hours to check on baby’s position, hopefully baby moves for you 🙂 I know it’s hard but the hospital is the best place for you.

@Kate thank you for sharing this! Glad things turned around for you! I cant even imagine how stressful it must've been for you to leave your child behind. They havent mentioned doing any further scans to see if the baby changes position but they are monitoring movements every 8 hours. It's really hard being at the hospital when I planned a home birth and it was all going to plan until a few days ago 😔

@Yasmina spinning babies is a website where you can position you’d body and do stretches to open your pelvis and relax the ligaments around it to encourage the baby to go head down. All the best!

@Yasmina they should be scanning you as it’s much more in your interest and there’s to avoid c-section and still continue with your home birth, it makes no sense, request to speak with the consultant again. Hope everything works out for you 🥰

@Lottie oh I see! Thanks for sharing

@Kate I will try and speak with her tomorrow! Thank you

You can always advocate for yourself and baby and have a elected c section just state that is what you wish to have and no longer wish to wait . My on hadbbeen very honest with me and what my legal grounds to have in regards my treatment and delivery being as though both of us are high risk so you can speak up and have it put in to action .

@Tennara do you think that will work if I request to have my c section now rather than wait? I'm really having a hard time trying to get them to listen to me

@Yasmina it very well could work because they brought you there for the concern of the baby and unblical cord .they were going to do it via c section .you as the patient and concerned for your child st this point very well have the right to advocate and voice your wished to be induced for the same reason the have admitted you .

@Tennara I will ask to speak to the ward matron tomorrow and hopefully I will get somewhere because the consultant on shift today is categorically refusing to do anything about it since according to her I'm not "high risk" or in emergency situation. Thank you

@Yasmina I hope they will allow you to be induced if not tomorrow with in a reasonable time. It's kinda off that they were going to do the c section but then change the course for another two weeks . That is stressful and worrisome especially they stated it was risky for the baby to stay in the womb .but then retract and have you admitted for two weeks. Why they didn't just say we will admitt for two weeks and the action of delivery will be c section. But I wish you luck

@Tennara that's exactly why I'm frustrated! They admitted me, told me I was having a c-section same day or the following day because of the high risk then changed their mind and scheduled a c section without consulting with me or informing me whatsoever. Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it 🙌

@Yasmina your very very welcome and you should very much advocate those facts to them I pray you and your baby will be safe and have the best outcome possible. Xoxo

@Tennara I hope so 🙌 thank you dear x

Mine went at 38+4 and I was a done as an emergency. I will add that my baby was in a slightly different position, he was part way between footling breech and transverse. Transverse is high risk in itself. I would be asking why they are no longer planning to do the c section as soon as possible and what the rationale is for waiting.

@Rebecca thank you for sharing this x I don't even know who made the decision to be honest with you, that's how appalling the communication is here!

@Yasmina I’m so sorry you’re having this experience! Not to scare you, but the risk of cord prolapse with a transverse lie can be as high as 20%. I would put that to them and ask how high the risk has to be in order for them to do the c section x

@Rebecca thank you so much for pointing that out 🙌 I will request to speak to the consultant who is making decisions without informing me and tell them that.
