PP Vaginal Discharge

Is the blood and after bleeding discharge from PP supposed to have a foul smell? Like a dead rat ? 🤧😭 I feel so nasty and gross like I wanna be clean and feel clean.

What color ??

A lil funny? Sure. It’s dead tissue. Dead rat? Idk about all that… lol

When I was being discharged this time they said to call the triage line if the bleeding smelled bad at all.

@Maxie there is some brown, then looks like green/yellow.

@Emily that’s what I’m thinking!

@Kali I didn’t get told that, but I was reading online it says it is supposed to have an unpleasant foul smell that it’s normal but I have no clue if it’s true.

If it’s green/yellow discharge I’d go get checked, could be in infection

I’m one week postpartum and I’d say it doesn’t necessary smell good but doesn’t have an overly strong odor. Although I think also our noses can be more sensitive during pregnancy and postpartum too. I agree with Ellen though. I think the color is probably more concerning. I’d call at least. Mine personally is just bright red, dark red, and slightly brown.

@Ellen I will have to call and see because I get told it’s normal then that could be sign of infection.

It’s normal! After having your baby it will be strong then your reg period smell

@Kali yes that’s what I mean, it’s not super strong it’s just a smell but it’s not overly strong it is just like “old”. My bleeding stops then it comes to bright red.

@Nina okay basically flushing out all of it, that’s what I keep getting told that it is normal after birth

Exactly as time goes on you’ll notice it will less pungent !

@Nina yeah you are right !!

Yeah I've had a strong smell after all 3 of my births. But the discharge has never been green or yellow in color. I'd get checked for the color of the discharge. Could be an infection but it does normally smell bad

@Leslie same here.

@Leslie when you stop bleeding what color is the discharge after no bleeding ?

Sometimes it's brown tinted or like super light light brown. It stays colored for a pretty long time after birth. Then it goes back to being like cloudy or milky looking like regular discharge. But my discharge had some color for like 3 months after birth

@Leslie so that means wearing a pad for all those months ?

I use panty liners or period undies. I had coloured discharged for a long time after my first baby. 3 weeks in with second baby now and it seems to be stopping faster than first time

When it lightened up i switched to pantyliners but always brought extra pads just in case.
