As a mother, do you feel yourself becoming more and more protective when you hear racially charged hate towards a group of people you or your child are a part of?

Yes I'm talking about that political statement referring Puerto Rico as an "island of garbage". I am married to a strong, loving Puerto Rican man who was born in Puerto Rico. My son is therefore half Puerto Rican. And after hearing that from a politician, it angered me to my core and my protective side is just coming out. Anyone else get this way when they hear hateful shit like this?

I am protective of all marginalized groups of people that have racially charged, hateful statements made against them. Being a mother definitely increased that.

"iT wAs a JoKe" "tRuMp dOeSn'T eNdOrSe wHaT hE sAiD" Jokes are supposed to be funny, and it's hardly the first time Trump and the people he surrounds himself with have expressed such bullshit views. Sometimes it's easy to ignore such rhetoric unless suddenly it's directed against you and the people you love. First they came from the socialist, then the trade unionist, then the Jews, and when they came for me... Well, you know the rest. Talk about your experience to the people around you. Make a plan to vote. The Fanta Fascist has said plainly what his vision of America includes, and how they want to deal with the "enemy within." Kalama Harris is still corporate Democrat trash who isn't going to save America or stop our imperialistic foreign policies, but Trump is so much worse

@Raqi I notice that “it was a joke” is said when they really mean to say “I was saying exactly what our white supremacist behinds believe”. At least stand on it.

My son is half Hispanic but really is very white presenting. I have a hard time listening to any of the racially charged comments especially because the Mexican ethnicity is a group that largely receives hate. I have found myself getting even more upset at comments lately, and realizing one day I might have to be the “mama bear” and protect my baby… Because when people say terrible, hateful comments, they are saying those to my baby.

@Mia my son is 6 and sadly have had to confront and stand up to a grown human being spewing racial comments at my son while at church. Shit is just getting ridiculous. My son is half Puerto Rican and half Asian.
