Progesterone only bc has fewer side effects too than things like the combined bc pill. So mirena iud or nexplanon implant, depo injections and mini pill. All have their pros and cons. You can also look into methods like the rhythm method but also track your basal body temp, that can be accurate with the app like Natural Cycles too but relies on self control and discipline to keep monitoring your temp and avoid sex on fertile days.
I love the nuvaring
@Abigail I’ve had this as well , but I had it removed due to it causing me to get constant yeast infections and UTI’s.z OB stated it could be from the strings and the bacteria getting more easily attracted to that.
I liked the Nexplanon implant while in graduate school (didn’t have to think about pills or anything) but the removal was not as pleasant. I still have a small scar of where the nurse had a hard time getting it out.
@Isabel I loved the nuvaring and also got constant yeast infections
@Aisha I have heard stories about it sometimes being painful 😳
@Abigail would it make my periods way more heavier since I already have them super heavy with painful cramps ?
@Charlie yeah you are right! There is a lot of pros and cons. I have to see what I really want to do.
@Emily any issues with that one ?
Never got pregnant for like 10 years of non safe sex. Then got pregnant the first cycle my husband and I decided to try and took it out. It regulated my heavy periods and did its job. No issues.
I’m getting back on it at my 6 week appointment.
I’ve had multiple forms of BC and I would highly recommend a copper IUD (Paraguard)! It’s non hormonal and the most effective. The only downside is heavier periods, but it’s a good trade IMO.
