Fainting

So today I had my first experience of fainting. I had been to the doctor for my little boy who gave me a prescription. I then went to get the prescription for a local Asda pharmacy and as I got out of the car and shut the door quite badly on my little finger which was actually very sore at the time. I could feel the pain shooting up my arm. My partner was in the back with my little boy as he had been screaming and he had just managed to get him settled so they waited in the car. When I got to the pharmacy, I went very light headed and fainted onto the floor. I’ve never done this before and thankfully I didn’t have my little boy with me because I usually do! I’ve read that if you faint once it can become a regular thing. Does anybody have any advice or experience with this? As it’s scared me due to how much me and my little boy are together just the two of us

Yes I've always suffered with fainting for as long as I can remember. I tend to notice the signs it's going to happen which for me is getting very hot, my hearing goes muffled and then starting to sway.

@Laurie this is exactly what happened with me today. I sort of knew I was going to so I leant forwards onto the pharmacy counter and told the pharmacist. I’m so sorry this is something you’ve always suffered with as I found it such a scary experience today. Complete loss of control of your body

@Alex I wish I could offer some sort of advice but I've never found a way to prevent it. It's definitely scary especially when you have children

Once happened to me it's such a horrible feeling. My iron levels was very low this led to fainting. X

I’ve always been curious; where does ur mind take u when u pass out? Are u in a sort sleep state?

I have fainted twice in my life, both times, I was on my period and wasn't drinking water. But the last time was 20 years ago, so it doesn't always become a regular thing; that probably depends on why you fainted.

@Jasmin I fainted in the shower once and I suddenly heard someone shouting my name. I woke up to my partner at the time slapping my face and trying to wake me up. You're not aware you've fainted until you come around again

@Laurie ahhhh I see. I fainted once in a hot car when I was like 8 bt I just woke up and I was alone in the car and I don’t remember much. Bt I didn’t fall over or anything cuz I was already sitting down. I was trying to see if anyone knows what happens to our brains when we are in fainting spells

Depends on what caused it. Sometimes people pass out from doing poop on the toilet because they stimulated their vagus nerve. Depending on your breathing, you could have breathed a certain way when you were in pain which contributed to your fainting. I'd call your doctor and ask them to get you in tomorrow so they can do orthostatic vitals on you; make sure there's no issues with dehydration or your kidneys. Let them know what happened.

I’ve fainted before and it doesn’t become a regular thing especially if you fainted from shock of pain. I’ve fainted a couple times but usually only once every 5 or more years so don’t worry xx

I last fainted a year ago in a restaurant because my partner showed me a gruesome injury picture of his neck 🤣😭 I usually faint for bloody things rather than In general though

Yes, this happens to me sometimes as a response to something painful. Like Roya said, my doctors have told me it's called a vasovagal response. I'm sorry that happened to you! 💙

Depends what caused it, I faint quite often due to a fast heart rate and low blood pressure 🤦‍♀️ the most recent being yesterday, most of the time when I start getting the signs that I'll faint I lay on the floor with my legs raised and often prevent the fainting, you need to speak to your doctor about it

@Jasmin I was only out of it for literally a second. But I knew I was falling and just couldn’t control my fall. Like my legs had been completely taken from underneath me

Wow thanks for all these responses everybody. I can’t believe how common it is!

You fainted because this is how your body deal with the pain to keep you “alive”. It is just normal because you shut the door on your finger. I had that once and was scared and I fainted too. But it won’t last. Don’t worry 😉

Yup! Fainted throughout all my pregnancy’s, will have been a year since i fainted within the 2 minutes silence, while we were standing at a local event at our local park, never felt so embarrassed ! I had to have iron infusions as my enemic played a part in it, but as soon as you feel light headed, sit on the floor, i controlled it better in my 2nd & 3rd pregnancies

I’ve fainted a couple of times but usually due to pain (sprained ankle) and I’ve fainted having bloods taken once or twice. For me it’s the way I breathe. I also know when I’m going to faint now, I go really hot and my ears go muffled/ ringing. When this happens I sit/ lie down immediately and take BIG deep breathes and it stops me from fully fainting.

Get your blood pressure checked also be aware not to lock your knees when you stand up straight also could’ve been a reaction to the pain of slamming your finger in a door or standing up too fast, which can also be hormonal. I have only passed out one time in my whole life. Never again in 41 years. So I definitely wouldn’t say once you fainted once you are going to faint numerous times because that just is not true.

@Kristina so glad you commented this. I’m actually on candersartan for migraines which lowers your blood pressure so that hadn’t even crossed my mind. I’ll definitely be booking in at the doctors. Thank you for your comment!!!
