Gallbladder removal

Hello - I developed problems with my gallbladder in the February after my baby was born November 2023! I have just had a call offering me surgery in a couple weeks. Has anybody had theirs removed & can let me know about the recovery? Paranoid I’ll be bed bound & with a clingy baby I’m worried about that! Thanks!

I’ve had mine out, they do say 2 weeks recovery usually unless there’s something complicated going on however, I was probably in bed for 2-3 days then I started feeling better. It’s the gas pains that are the worst but don’t think it’s as bad as they say xx

Thank you! Would you say it is worth it? I’m so paranoid it’s the wrong thing to do incase complications but the pain is unbearable when it happens

Yes!!! I only had small stones so wasn’t having the symptoms that I know some people go through BUT for people who had a rough time I’ve heard it’s almost an instantly relief once removed! xx

I had mine out in 2007 but I had a lot of complications like pancreatitis 3 times before surgery, gallbladder had been attached to my liver on and off and my gallbladder was extremely full of stones 🙈 Gas pains is definitely the worst bit post surgery for 2-3 days. I think I was in bed a lot the first week but it got easier after that. Based on my experience of complications pre surgery, as one hospital failed to diagnose my gall stones, id say 100% surgery is worth it and you’ll feel so much better xx

I’m just so worried cos my baby is such a mummy’s boy! Especially at the minute. But likewise, the pain is excruciating when it flares up. My gallbladder scan showed it to be full of stones too, so I do think it’s better out than in, but as I’ve not had a flare up for a few months maybe, I’m doubting it! But I think it’s the best thing to do cos when it happened last time I was on morphine & in an ambulance to a&e 😩 xx

Ah I toally understand as both mine are mummies boys. The flare up pain so so much worse than the recovery, the recovery will be short term and you’ll feel so so much better in the long term. Bless you it sounds like you’ve been so poorly, hope all goes really well for you ❤️ xx
