Copper coil

Just thinking ahead. I didn’t get round to my appointment last time and that is why I’m dealing g with 2 under 2 right now 😂😂 I’ve done the pill and really hated how it made me feel, so I really want to avoid hormones. However I do have painful and heavy periods and apparently the copper coil can make both of those worse? Just wanted to know others’ experiences with the copper coil? Thanks

I've only had the hormonal coil but id really recommend it... I had two of them so had no periods for 10 years and then got pregnant really quickly after taking the second one out... Was very happy with it all and the no periods was such a dream. Copper coils are hormone free which is great but they do make your periods even heavier so depends if you're happy to have that. Other thing to say for the hormonal coil is that the hormone level is way less than the pill because the pill has to travel round your whole body through your blood but the coil is localised and so needs far less hormone plus you get the no periods... I'd also say they really hurt being put in and taken out in my experience but for the years of worry free sex it's definitely worth it!

@Georgie thank you!! I had heard about the hormones being localised but I wasn’t sure how true it was. I know it affects people in different ways but I’m guessing you’re less likely to have your mood affected? Oooo I didn’t know the no periods fact 🤩 that sounds good!!

Everyone is different but I didn't have any mood changes from it either time! Same with the no bleeding, some people still bleed it a bit but it at least reduced your periods if not stops them whereas they are increased with the hormonal one!

No experience of the copper coil as I didn't want to risk heavier periods and when previously noticed when on the implant that when the hormone level dropped after 3 months, my mood was awful and I bled for 2 weeks every 3-4 weeks so know my body needs the hormones.. I had the Mirena (hormone) coil for 18 months and loved it! My mood was better, I lost the weight I gained on the pill and I had breakthrough bleeding (very light) for 3-5 days once every 3-6 months. They do tell you if you want to ttc it can take a while for your fertility to return to normal (average is 6-12 months) however I had it removed 11 December 2023 and was 4 weeks pregnant a month later x
