Late diagnosis of GD?

Hey 👋 up to now (37+5) all has been well in this 2nd pregnancy. We’ve been under consultant care as previous child had FGR and getting extra growth scans. Last growth scan at 36 weeks showed a big jump from 28th centile to 57th centile and now my consultant has had me tested for diabetes as a possible cause. Just waiting to hear back -apparently they only call if you do have it which isn’t great for someone who likes to be completely certain! I don’t have any risk factors for GD and have tried to be as healthy as possible this pregnancy 🤷‍♀️ Anybody else had this or had an experience of being diagnosed so late with GD? I’m just picturing monster baby now and all the induction/medical intervention that I was hoping to avoid this time round 😩

I called up my midwife and just asked if they could see the results. I think they get that people can’t sit still with it haha. To be honest though I can’t see what they will do at this stage. It took a good few weeks to work out what triggers my high sugar levels and what I could tolerate. They may just tell you to chill out with carbs and sugar and induce you earlier. Good luck!

Diagnosed with late onset GD in both of my pregnancies after growth scans at 35/36 weeks. No symptoms, no risk factors in my first pregnancy (second pregnancy I was overweight and had a history of GD which both were obviously risk factors) and tested negative throughout my pregnancies until the very last minute! First baby I didn’t have time to worry about it, he was born 5 weeks early and 2 days after my growth scan and GD blood test. 6lb 14oz though 🤭 the scan 2 days before estimated him at 7lb 2oz so pretty spot on. Second baby I was given at home monitoring and was managing it for a few weeks with diet. Induced at 39w for other reasons and baby was 7lb 1oz- they predicted he was that big weeks before he arrived though, so not accurate- although his growth did slow which was one of the reasons for inducing me.

I was diagnosed with it in labour 😂 had been testing for it throughout pregnancy and it always came back inconclusive with my sugar levels, they only confirmed it during my labour

I was diagnosed Monday at 36 weeks 🫠 tested negative on 3 separate occasions in this and last pregnancy. I’m still not entirely sure what impact it’ll have at this stage and if I’ll even be able to work out what triggers it in the 3 weeks I have until my section date..!

I was diagnosed at 37 weeks. We struggled to control it with diet and it was all very late for trial and error so I had a C-section at 38+2. They estimated baby to be 9lb from scans and he was born 8lb 7oz. I had a meeting with diabetic midwives and a doctor and we made a decision best for my little one and my circumstances so just get the knowledge you need and do what’s right by you and baby don’t let them push you into anything you’re not happy with. Good luck x

@Sarah if you don’t mind me asking! Were you planned to have a section anyway? Or was it because you didn’t have enough time to get on top of it with diet?

@Emily I was always planning a natural birth so it was hard for me to go for the section. It was a mixture of the risks with his weight, the fact he kept having reduced movements and he as you said there was no time to get anything under control despite all my efforts with diet. Like I said I really wanted a natural birth but I asked for a meeting with the doctor and diabetes midwives and got all the information and made a decision from there c

I’m the same I passed my GD glucose tolerance test mid pregnancy then at 36 weeks I had excess amniotic fluid so I had to do home testing for a week all was fine! My next scan showed everything was fine, fluid levels normal…but today at 38w+2D they diagnosed me just said to keep and eye on what I eat and avoid the stuff that spikes my sugars. But not enough time to do much (except monitor and inducing) at this stage but if baby is scanning normal and no other health issues my nurse said I can discuss with the consultant on Monday 🥰
