@Lauren Hi Lauren, it was drawing up from the vial with the rubber top. I just couldn’t seem to get any more in even though there was still liquid in it. I’m with Care Fertility and watched a video on their website but it only shows drawing from the vial for the first time. I was definitely stressed so yes that could be why, plus currently on a very heavy period so that might also have contributed. Have you managed to get all the liquid out that you need when drawing from a vial more than once?
Yes I have managed, i am a veterinary nurse so very practised in drawing up though. Are you keeping the vial vertical when drawing up? Vacuum and gravity is your friend. If you get any air in your syringe when drawing up, you’re best off to remove your needle and very slowly (holding the syringe vertically) pushing the air out before trying again. Practise with water if you’re worried about wasting your meriofert. Then when you reinsert your needle make sure the tip of the needle as at the lowest point of the vial (close to the rubber bit of the vial)
hello. i’m also on 450iu meriofert at the moment. it’s definitely a pain having to do the three vials and i’ve had this problem. after you’ve added the liquid and mixed, don’t forget to put the vial upside down. pull out some of the needle from the vial so it’s not all the way in. you can pull it out a bit more if you need to as you pull the plunger. that way, as the liquid level in the vial goes down, your needle can keep capturing it. the needles are also a little bit bendy which can help get the last bits of you angle the vial. don’t know if that helps. it’s not the easiest… x
If you have a bubble when drawing up, hold your syringe vertical (needle pointing up) and you can flick your syringe to encourage the bubble to the needle end. Don’t be worried drawing a little more air in to give you room to remove the bubble. Remember to change your needle after drawing up before you inject. Your needle will blunt a lot when drawing up. And it’s easier to inject yourself with a sharp needle (plus less trauma to you). Hope this is helpful to you xx
Also top tip….if there’s too much air in the vial after mixing, drawing up gets harder. So place your vial flat (rubber top up) and insert the needle only (no syringe) to remove the air pressure. Then remove needle. Reattach needle to the syringe with no air in and try again.
@Lauren @Katie thank you so much both. I’m going to try keeping it vertical this evening and all the tips you’ve both suggested. Thank you!!
Hi 👋 can you ask your clinic to demonstrate the best technique to draw up? Which part are you struggling with most? Drawing up from the glass ampoule or from the vial with the rubber top? Happy to help with advice if you want to message me. But it’s really helpful if you can be shown by your clinic. They have useful videos too xx Perhaps you were just very anxious and stressed about doing your first solo injection which is why you felt faint but I would mention it to your clinic just in case xx
