Car seat fighters

My 20 month old has been fighting me and refusing to go in his car seat for months now. I convinced myself it was just a phase but it has only gotten worse. We’ve tried so many tricks and they work temporarily but he gets smarter and stronger each time. It has gotten to the point where we just choose not to go anywhere because getting him in the car seat is such a frustrating hassle. Has anyone been able to fix this? How??? 😭

I usually could convince both of mine to relax and get in with a snack but I’m sure you’ve tried that. But, maybe a special toy that they only get in the car seat or a special treat?

Yep. We’ve done “special snacks.” It worked for a while, but not anymore, he just shoves it out of the way and continues kicking and screaming. We’ve tried special toys but he will just throw them 🙃

@Emily I assumed you also tried this but having someone sit with him? My son was pretty bad and we did end up getting him a tablet just got the car. It worked but I know that’s not for everyone. After a few months we just let it die and he didn’t ask for it so we removed it.

Have you considered that his seat might be uncomfortable? Expensive if so but might be worth it if that's the problem. Hopefully it'll get better at least when you can turn him around 🤷‍♀️ I've struggled a little with a few of mine but not this bad. My 2yo now starts my truck each time and pretends to drive while I put his baby brother and older sister in their seats. (He's far too little to reach the break to get it in gear, nor does he know that that's why it won't drive..)

@Sarah we have been through 4 car seats with him. 😭 tried the Nuna revv, Nuna exec, a cheap safety first one, and now a baby arc. He hates them all!

@Alyssa yes and we have A 2 month old now, I thought it would stop when he had his baby brother in a car seat next to him but no 🙃 it started when I was pregnant and he would kick my chest, stomach, even face to avoid being buckled in. We have been so against screens but it might be our only option at this point. Maybe a “car only” tablet

@Emily ugh I’m sure it’s been frustrating. Thankfully my son was over it before I had my daughter. I was shower against tablets and electronics and screen time period but it was really my only option. We drove a lot and it gave me so much anxiety. I was pulling over every five minutes to console him and it only made it worse. Definitely worth a shot!
