Pick up put down - short naps

We’ve been trialing the pick up put down method for the past few days with my LO. He’s taken to it really well and is now self settling and sleeping independently in his crib. HOWEVER, before he could nap on me for upwards of 2 hours, his day naps in his crib are now only 30 minutes! Has anyone else experienced this/Has any advice?

Following cos same 🥲 he’ll do maximum 40 odd mins whereas contact naps he can do 2 hours lol

My LG has always had really short naps and it's been a nightmare now she's trying to drop the third nap!! I've started nap training - essentially if she naps for less than an hour leaving her in the cot for a period of time to encourage her to settle back to sleep. The method I'm following is 60min rule (leave in the cot for 60mins from when you put them in or longer obviously if they fall asleep and stay asleep) in combo with sleep training method of your choice (eg Ferber). She's never taken well to sleep training where I'm in the room or keep going in, so we do just leave her - I wouldn't recommend this to everyone but it genuinely works the best for us. Just to be clear I don't leave her crying for an hour at a time 😅 She takes around 15mins to fall asleep (just singing to herself, not crying) and if she stirs from a nap that's too short it rarely takes more than another 15mins for her to drop back off. We've started getting more frequent longer naps and quicker settling so I'd say it's working.

@Sophie I was tempted this morning to leave my LO after he woke up, he lasted about 10 minutes before he started crying. I then didn’t want to restart the pick up put down, as i didn’t want to overdo it. I think i’ll continue to leave him after he wakes (if it’s another short one) and maybe over time he will then re settle himself back to sleep!

Yeah might be a good plan! I abort the whole thing if she really starts to cry (which often means she's done a poo and needs changing lol).
