Honestly… I don’t think either of your points make sense. I don’t understand how whose president has any impact to their dating life. I also don’t think Trumps plan to add tariffs are going to make anything more affordable, if anything I think it will increase inflation on a global level. The idea of making America great again, is a nice slogan, but I personally feel like it means taking away rights from minorities and women. He pushed reversing roe vs wade and Columbus ohio where I am from we have white supremacist with Nazi flag chanting down the streets because they feel empowered. That does’t seem great to me, that is just scary. I also don’t think I would be friends with someone who supports Candace Owens and what she supports. Your friend has every right to their own opinions. If you are on polar sides on main core values then maybe you’ve grown apart and your friendship doesn’t work anymore.

Not understanding why Republicans/conservatives get backlash is absolutely wild to me. Especially in this incoming administration. Most have allegations of SA, are ultra conservative Christian nationals, and are wildly under qualified for their positions. They're openly xenophobic, anti-LGBTQIA+, anti-woman, and their policies will harm lower to middle income earners. But, woo.. MAGA...

This post has turned very political. If you’re looking for advice, heres my thoughts. Yes, It’s a little immature to hang up on you, but he was probably emotional. If you want to maintain this friendship you really just need to have an open talk about why he’s so upset about your vote. And I think you need to keep an open mind that his point of view could be that he may never be able to get married if gay marriage is banned and he could feel unsafe with homophobic people feeling empowered. Your point of view sounds like you voted for more affordable cost of living but to him your vote could mean anti gay rights.
being hung up on is “demonizing” to you? politics aside, if my best friend of 15 years got that upset about a choice i made, my reaction would be to try to understand where they’re coming from - not to feel attacked. like if you really are best friends and love each other and have each others best interests in mind, i would absolutely take a pause to reflect on my actions after seeing how upset by bf was. but i also have relationships with friends where we hold each other accountable
What decade was America the “greatest?” - the MAGA slogan will never make sense to me. We are all different demographics that grew up in different decades, under different circumstances - so yeah when was America the greatest of all time? Genuine question. Our president has several allegations of sexual assault dated back to the 70’s. I don’t think his great again is my great again. And your friend being hurt by your vote doesn’t mean you’re being demonized. It’s called owning your shit and having a grown adult conversation. People on here have no idea how economics works. The president can not control the economy. The best a president can do is appoint federal reserve members and sign legislation. Who really controls the economy is Congress and the federal reserve. Will Congress actually cut back on spending via DOGE? I hope so. The more Congress spends, the more we have inflation. My grandpas generation was about to sustain a stay at home wife and 3 kids on 1 factory job. He was also a milkman. That's unheard of today. The pot has been boiling slowly for a long time. We are basically heading to an Argentina situation. The good news is Argentina has made a turn around by making significant cuts to spending and is finally seeing a surplus for the first time in decades. The last time we had a surplus was actually under Clinton with a Republican Congress. Clinton was a total moderate though and concerned with budgets. Trump is very much like Clinton. He's actually a new York Democrat with concerns about the economy.
It's not good for his businesses to have an inflationary environment along with constant threats of war. However, will republicans actually have the balls to do what Argentina did remains to be seen. We might need to get to that point before people wake up. The president is not a savior or villain (unless they go past Congress to start WWIII which isnt constitutional.) the president is head of the military, can appoint people, and sign off on things - that's it. Inflation and the economy is much more complicated than that. No one ever talks about or even understands the role of the federal reserve and Congress in all this. Getting off the gold standard, money printing, etc. people over simply things or are simply not informed of the way things work in the real world. You can look to other countries too that have the same issues, it's not unique to America. Empires have collapsed because of similar things. Anyway, I hope we become the next Argentina before we become the next Argentina.
