Our first was a micro-preemie and as I had severe pre-eclampsia we’ve been told to expect another preemie for a 2nd pregnancy so getting plans in now. My NICU let us in all hours so with my first I went in at 6pm and stayed doing skin to skin until 10pm - plan to do something similar so I can still have time with my daughter at home. I’ve got family on board to make sure my first baby taken care of while I’m in hospital. Hubby and I will probably do shifts day to day at the hospital and go together on weekends when we have support. NICU is used to preemie mamas not having antenatal classes so can offer support for expressing and bf. It will be an incredibly stressful time and you will need breaks and support. I had to think of it as childcare from the hospital so I could also recover. She was 13 weeks early so I think we had 4 days total that we took to ourselves without going to the hospital to try and destress a bit. Hope everything goes smoothly for you!
Also our NICU had a family room so siblings could be there with parents but also had somewhere to go if they needed a change of scenery (check when siblings are allowed in as we had visiting hours from 8-8 but mum and dad had 24/7 access). Don’t know if you’re in the UK but we had a charity called Tiny Lives which offered activities and support for parents and helped transition if baby needed additional support (oxygen tanks etc) and made sure there was food available for meals for families in the NICU kitchen.
I remember that wait. I was on bed rest for PPROM for 3 weeks and daughter born at 28 weeks. How many weeks are you now? She's our first and only so can't help with that. Except that we had a neighbor baby whose mom came at night while the other kids slept. I struggled with milk production probably from stress. Kept at it and pumped her 1-2 bottles a day until 1 year old. See if you can meet with a lactation consultant. Ours helped a lot. Good luck and prayers for you and baby ❤️
