Preventing/lessening tearing

I saw a post asking about this but lost it when I was to find this info. I'm not even sure if it was in this group. But here is some information on perineal massage...

Hi mama!! Even a little bit of this helps! But also take a look at different pushing positions! I had a 2nd degree clitoral tear with my first baby 17 months ago. I didoerineal massage regularly but ended up “purple pushing” laying on a bed for about 40 min. This baby I did probably less perineal massage (because I have a 17 month old and I was tired as hell 🤪) but asked to push on my side and hands and knees. I used breathing exhales to push rather than holding my breath. My baby was almost 3 lb heavier this time and I only got a 1st degree perineum tear! I had an induction and epidural both times! Both I was in labor for nearly 24 hours! I was 40+3 with my first and 39 weeks with my 2nd!

@Katie I did most of my pushing with my second and third and no tearing with the second and a tiny tiny tear with my 16 month old. He was my biggest baby a whole lb bigger than the first two. With my first I tore front to back and bilateral sidewall tearing. I second the exploring of positions!! It's more natural to squat/ follow your body! Good tip!
