Called a sick day at workđŸ„Č

So after waking up today and having the longest morning sickness and tummy pain from it I decided to call a sick day. one that I’ve not had in a while. My manager isn’t too happy as she knows about my pregnancy so I understand, however I do need a rest day as I’m exhausted even tho I’ve been off yesterday and then off another 2days after todayđŸ«ą I’m wondering does anybody know who to phone for anti sickness tablets? I’ve never used them before, my doctors don’t deal with anything to do with pregnancy, I’ve the EPU nhs number but not sure if they deal with it, also have the maternity triage number or there’s the first maternity wife appointment I have next week but I feel I need to sort myself out before then so I can return to work feeling better.

GP for anti sickness, only they can prescribe! If they refuse ask them if they just flat out don’t see pregnant women 😂 If they’re STILL difficult, contact your midwives and they might be able to put the pressure on. Can’t believe they’ve told you they don’t deal with anything to do with pregnancy, what a nightmare x

If you’re sick, you’re sick, pregnant or not and your workplace have no right to make you feel bad about that. You’re entitled to be off work if you’re unwell. The fact that they know you are pregnant makes it even less acceptable. They wanna watch themselves for discriminatory behaviour as pregnancy/maternity is a protected characteristic under the Equalities Act 2010 so they better not be treating you less favourably as a result.

@Danielle thank you, my manager said “morning sickness shouldn’t be an excuse not to come in.” I explained the sickness is a lot at the minute and I’ve got cold symptoms coming on so I’m needing to take a day to recover and I’d be in my next shift. I’m needing to get tablets to help as we work with food so I’d be gagging at everything. I mc in Oct and I asked to take a line for a few days off to heal and she said just to take the day I had then come in the next day. So I only had one day to recover from the mc. X

I think it sounds like your workplace is the problem. I have not managed to be in work for a full week since I’ve been pregnant (currently 9 weeks). They are very supportive and appreciate the fact that I try and come in rather than just signing off. Don’t feel guilty for taking the time off that you need, just listen to your body and do what is best for you and the baby đŸ„° I think the only place to get anti sickness would be the GP unfortunately. Maybe try them again an see why they won’t treat pregnant women? Hope you get something sorted â˜ș

If your GP won’t speak to you, call 111 and they will contact your GP to arrange a callback. As others have said already, the GP needs to prescribe your medication. You should contact HR. My workplace gives 1 week bereavement for a miscarriage before 12 weeks or 2 weeks for a miscarriage after that as policy. Check your company policy as that already feels like discrimination refusing to let you even have more than one day to recover. Also your manager has definitely discriminated against you by saying “morning sickness shouldn’t be an excuse”. Every pregnancy is different and it’s not their position to judge when you feel too sick to work. Make a record of what they’ve said as evidence and contact HR once you’re back at work. Hope you feel better soon!!

Your manager shouldn’t be making you feel bad for calling in sick - morning sickness is absolutely a reason to call in sick, you’re literally sick! If it was a tummy bug they’d expect you to stay home because your productivity would be impacted and it wouldn’t be pleasant for others around you. I’d email HR because that sounds like discrimination on the grounds of pregnancy to me which is very much illegal x

Just so you know you cannot be treated under the normal sickness policy when you’re pregnant. So you can have multiple occasions off sick and you cannot be disciplined for it. Management that make you feel guilty for being unwell and off are just major red flags, don’t feel guilty about doing what you need to do, what your manager/colleagues think doesn’t matter !

Def phone 111 and they’ll make the GP contact you. I realised reaching the GP via 111 is way faster than phoning them directly As for your manager, I’m disappointed in her, she’s a woman and she should support you in these though times. This shouldn’t discourage you to take time off - remember to put yourself and your baby on first place. Hope you’ll feel better soon, remember it won’t feel this horrible forever xx
