If youâre sick, youâre sick, pregnant or not and your workplace have no right to make you feel bad about that. Youâre entitled to be off work if youâre unwell. The fact that they know you are pregnant makes it even less acceptable. They wanna watch themselves for discriminatory behaviour as pregnancy/maternity is a protected characteristic under the Equalities Act 2010 so they better not be treating you less favourably as a result.
@Danielle thank you, my manager said âmorning sickness shouldnât be an excuse not to come in.â I explained the sickness is a lot at the minute and Iâve got cold symptoms coming on so Iâm needing to take a day to recover and Iâd be in my next shift. Iâm needing to get tablets to help as we work with food so Iâd be gagging at everything. I mc in Oct and I asked to take a line for a few days off to heal and she said just to take the day I had then come in the next day. So I only had one day to recover from the mc. X
I think it sounds like your workplace is the problem. I have not managed to be in work for a full week since Iâve been pregnant (currently 9 weeks). They are very supportive and appreciate the fact that I try and come in rather than just signing off. Donât feel guilty for taking the time off that you need, just listen to your body and do what is best for you and the baby đ„° I think the only place to get anti sickness would be the GP unfortunately. Maybe try them again an see why they wonât treat pregnant women? Hope you get something sorted âșïž
If your GP wonât speak to you, call 111 and they will contact your GP to arrange a callback. As others have said already, the GP needs to prescribe your medication. You should contact HR. My workplace gives 1 week bereavement for a miscarriage before 12 weeks or 2 weeks for a miscarriage after that as policy. Check your company policy as that already feels like discrimination refusing to let you even have more than one day to recover. Also your manager has definitely discriminated against you by saying âmorning sickness shouldnât be an excuseâ. Every pregnancy is different and itâs not their position to judge when you feel too sick to work. Make a record of what theyâve said as evidence and contact HR once youâre back at work. Hope you feel better soon!!
Your manager shouldnât be making you feel bad for calling in sick - morning sickness is absolutely a reason to call in sick, youâre literally sick! If it was a tummy bug theyâd expect you to stay home because your productivity would be impacted and it wouldnât be pleasant for others around you. Iâd email HR because that sounds like discrimination on the grounds of pregnancy to me which is very much illegal x
Just so you know you cannot be treated under the normal sickness policy when youâre pregnant. So you can have multiple occasions off sick and you cannot be disciplined for it. Management that make you feel guilty for being unwell and off are just major red flags, donât feel guilty about doing what you need to do, what your manager/colleagues think doesnât matter !
Def phone 111 and theyâll make the GP contact you. I realised reaching the GP via 111 is way faster than phoning them directly As for your manager, Iâm disappointed in her, sheâs a woman and she should support you in these though times. This shouldnât discourage you to take time off - remember to put yourself and your baby on first place. Hope youâll feel better soon, remember it wonât feel this horrible forever xx

GP for anti sickness, only they can prescribe! If they refuse ask them if they just flat out donât see pregnant women đ If theyâre STILL difficult, contact your midwives and they might be able to put the pressure on. Canât believe theyâve told you they donât deal with anything to do with pregnancy, what a nightmare x
