Potty training - no nappies at night

When do we know when to do this? My daughter potty is trained in the day although still a little scared of poos. We still wear nappy in car seat (always dry) and sleeping (dry most of the time).

It’s developmental, so just wait until they have been consistently dry a few weeks at night, there’s no point trying before.

So from what ive read the body will produce a hormone at some point which helps them stay dry at night, until that point there's probably no point attempting. We're waiting until she's showing she can do as atm shes consistently full nappy in the morning

@Lisa thanks! I don’t want to rush anything as it’s all new to us and she’s happy to wear a nappy to sleep at the moment but holds it until the morning when she asks for a wee.

@Eleanor ah interesting, okay thanks. I think we are nearly there but I’ll leave it a bit longer and see 🤞 not in a big rush as she’s happy to wear nappies at night for now.

Poo withholding sometimes gets better when nappies are no longer available.. but with my daughter I waited until she’d woken up dry 10 days in a row and then got rid of all nappies

How did u start the potty training?

You can start night training when you start day time

@Rachael thanks for the advice! I’ve been saying do you want a nappy for a poo and she’s not even going in there. 😅 it’s only been two days so maybe today will be the day! She was going on potty before but scared when doing it. That’s helpful, thank you! Last thing I want for her is to consistently wet the bed and get upset. So far we are doing out and about without nappies and she is doing great

@Jo a few months ago we took leave, did no pants/ nappies/ trousers at home and she was afraid when wetting herself then holding it. So wasn’t very successful. She started understanding the feeling but not well enough so we put it off. At nursery, they sit her on the potty before a wee but again, no success. Since our initial “training” when at home, I said do you want a nappy or not, very go with the flow. Two weekends ago she just started using the potty on her own. Then pants after that with a few accidents where she has learnt to ask when she needs to wee or poo, even when wearing a nappy. x

My LO was consistently dry all night for about a month straight and one night her dad forgot to put one on and we had no accidents and we’ve been nappy free since. She does have a mattress protector just in case but she usually wakes up and lets us know now if she needs a wee

@Gabi oh great. Is your LO still in a cot? Mine is, so she’d need to call to wake us up. We have a baby due next month so can’t make any more changes with her already potty training like changing to a bed or taking sides off
