Could you try getting a clear round bauble that the top comes off and get him to grab it whilst holding his wrist so you can guide his hand? Worked with us last Christmas x
Nursery nurse here 👋 Put the paint on paper and put his hand on top. Put the paper on the bauble and then slide the paper out, fingers last, from underneath so his hand is on the bauble. You can hold his hand flat with yours to keep it straight x
Have you not tried to ink pads with the paper from Amazon? They're amazing for handprints in particular, as I find painting feet and printing is far easier than hands 🤣❤️
I gave up on the hands and did footprints instead 🤣 but I did Christmas cards not baubles 🤣

@Katie this is what we've got and I've tried,I get his hand flat to it but then he's trying to grab it and it's too big for his hand x

I don't know why I didn't think of ink pads 🤦♀️ still got some left over from when he was newborn 😆 in going to try with the ink and with what Emma and Shelley suggested. Thank you everyone! We'll see what happens x

@Caroline if the top comes off you could run some white paint around the inside to show off the print, then top out the access, just a thought 🤷♀️
