Sterilising baby bottles

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my first baby and looking for the best method for sterilising bottles, teething toys, dummies, breast pump parts etc. I’m hoping to breast feed to begin with but then potentially pump and/or formula feed if need be. I was planning on using the cold water bucket method as you seem to be able to sterilise more items in it (I understand some things can’t be put in a steam steriliser). Plus I thought it would take up less room in my kitchen and seems fairly easy to just have a sterile bucket ready to throw any bottles/dummies in for a few mins. I’m wondering what the pros are for using a steam steriliser, or even a UV one? Would love people’s opinions on what methods they prefer as I’m very new to this!

I haven't used anything else but we use the cold water with Milton tablets and it's super easy! It's done in 15mins and you don't have to wait for anything to cool down. We 100% bottle feed and it has been very straight forward for us.

The Milton cold steriliser was the best recommendation I have ever received from anyone! Cheap and cheerful, really easy to use and also great if you’re travelling as well xx

We use a sterliser in the microwave, takes 12 mins and done. Given you have to wait 20 mins for the kettle water to cool it all works for us. Plus no extra costs! We also use the bags from boots that take 4 mins if just a couple of dummies.

I’ve been using the Milton cold sterilising method which is quite good to use but I have got the tommee tippee electric steam one which I’ll be using once baby is here, I think that could be faster than the Milton option but for now Milton cold sterilisation is just simple xx

@Charlotte I have the tommee tippee UV steriliser and love it. I use it for everything you listed. I also have Milton tablets for when we go away for a weekend or week at my mums house.

I found the Milton cold sterilisation the easiest and could fit everything in and when I travelled I used a pop up bucket specifically for sterilising that I got off Amazon and at home had the Milton bucket

I personally prefer the microwave ones. The cold water one stinks.

Personally prefer microwaveable as I don't like the smell of the cold water ones. Both are great though. Microwave takes us 2 mins whilst the kettle boils for hot water flask. Cold water pros are no waiting for cooling I guess.

hi! EBF here and my daughter is almost 2! i can’t get her off but when we did bottle feed when she was 0-3 months. since we didn’t bottle feed like at all i used the dr brown sterilizer bags. compact and easy to use. just throwing that out there if you do decide to breastfeed and not bottle feed as much. having those huge sterilizers can be a pain if you don’t use them!

If you’re planning on breastfeeding I wouldn’t recommend getting a large steriliser. I would use mam bottles as they self sterilise in the microwave. Then for other items such as a pump I would use microwave sterilising steam bags. They take up zero space, easy to transport if travelling and can get own brand ones from Asda so cheap to use x

Tommee tippee also self sterilise they have less parts than the mam bottles just depends on the teat and bottles your LO prefers. Xx

Hey mamas, i want to share an exciting opportunity with everyone. My neighbor introduced me to a flexible wfh opportunity. It’s all about trading . I earn $7k-8k daily weekly. Does who are interested should Send a direct message for more details. Thanks

Sterilising wise we use Tommie tippee one, but looking into it it's actually not essential to sterilise things, boiling hot water will do. Pump wise haakaa manual pump has been a lifesaver. Dummies, we've not been using it as it can impact face structure but we got some in case, theres some out there that are better for that sorta thing x

We use the UV and it's amazing x

We bought bottles and dummies that could be microwave sterilised and just put them on before bed every night, and then odd things like teethers etc I just chucked in a bowl with a Milton tablet
