Is it normal to not have a full period after giving birth?

Ok so I just had my son 3 months ago. I have been using contraceptive to avoid getting pregnant and we use it every time. My first period after birth was very light and barely even lasted a day.. so my period has been all over the place not really even coming fully. I have heard it takes a while for your hormones to get back in alignment. So when I got this notification from my period tracker I’m over here shitting my pants. I’m sure I’m NOT, but is it normal that my period is not normal and regular after birth? Before birth my period was irregular somewhat.

That’s right, hormones will take a little while to get back to normal (best part of 2 years for them to all get back to baseline) but your period is likely to return before then. Breastfeeding can delay its return as well as a lot of skin to skin with bub. My period took 4 months to come back and by 6 months pp I’ve been regular.

@Trish ok that makes me feel better… this notification had me freaking the hell out. I am being responsible using the same preventative measures I used before trying and I never got pregnant until I started to try. Last thing I want is still be recovering post partum and see this lol. I’ll take a test asap just for peace of mind . But my first time I think I had a period recently it was very very light

@Trish also I am not breastfeeding, I was in the beginning

How are you going OP? Did you end up doing a test?

@Trish oh yes I did! It was negative lol and I got my period like normal! Thanks for asking
