I’ve had my 2 babies in both Winchester and Basingstoke and can’t say a bad word about either. My first was during Covid December 2020 and was sent to Winchester as Basingstoke was full. My second was an induction at Basingstoke in November 2024.
I’ve had both my babies in Basingstoke and have felt really well looked after on both occasions. Second time I was in the antenatal unit for a week before giving birth, and then my boy was in the neonatal there. We all felt very well cared for at all times, super friendly and personable midwives, doctors and nurses. ❤️
I would definitely stick with Bstoke, you don't want to be travelling further than necessary! I had an amazing stay there ❤️
For my first, we were also offered to go to Andover, the birthing suites at Andover as lovely, and had we have been closer we would probably had chosen there however we live right next to Basingstoke hospital so it just made sense. My only negatives to Basingstoke is that it was a little old and run down, my daughter was born on a day with quite bad wind and rain, and they had to put blankets along the window to stop the wind coming through. It sounded like the walls were shaking at one point, and again had the same in our room once baby arrived, it was a little cold however having said this, the care was great, and didn’t affect my birth at all! We got sent home, but I could stand the pain, so they advised us to go to Winchester as Basingstoke was getting full, it’s only because my cervix burst that they allowed me into Basingstoke in the end! So I would do what ever you feel most comfortable with, I would not have liked to have spent more than 10 minutes in the car in labour!

My son is nearly 5 now but had a very positive experience at Basingstoke. The after care was fantastic & kept me in just to support with feeding!
i’m in andover and i got asked the same, being that we have a birthing unit here im still going to winchester just because ive had good interactions with them when ive been admitted in the past, but to be honest its down to you and your preference xxx
