Family comments

Anyone else’s family feel the need to constantly say “you’re not important”, “it’s about the baby not you”, “we’re only here because of the baby” every time they visit? Like obviously baby is the most important and is the center of my world but why do you feel the need to say these things to me multiple times throughout your visit? Am I overreacting?

I'll be damned if someone's going to come into my home and make me feel bad. That's not okay.

@Violeta💕 right? It’s like ok even if you’re saying it lighthearted…why?

I had this said to me recently! It’s so wrong. The baby is obviously the most important thing in your life, but you’re also the most important thing in your baby’s life. Your baby’s happiness and wellbeing is a direct reflection of your happiness and wellbeing. People are idiots. You are 100% important too.

A LITTLE unnecessary? I’d lose my shit.

Tell them they’re not important and show them the door

Uh the baby wouldnt exist without you I think you’re pretty important. You’d be important even if you didn’t have a baby. What a shitty thing for someone to say to you

My grandma makes “jokes” like that. It’s annoying asf.

@Korissa thank you! Yes like we all get it, baby is a precious gift to all of us. Like I understand that more than anyone else! But why do you find it necessary to make these comments?? I appreciate the support on this. Sorry you’ve experienced the same.

@Levi finding it hard to just keep my mouth shut lately but it’s really starting to annoy me.

@Lisa ha! If only

@Victoria~ thanks! I’m like I get we’re all excited about the baby but why put me down? Smh

@Chloe I don’t understand why this is a thing. I’m already sensitive enough with anxiety I never imagined I would have as a mom. No need for inappropriate jokes that bring down my self esteem on top of everything else.

What's their tone and face when they say it? I could see my step father saying these as a joke. Hes always like that and will laugh and hug after. If their serious, they don't need to be around you or the baby.

My family say this but I know they don't mean it. They laugh and say it in a jokey way and I've never took it personally

Anytime I’ve heard anyone say this it’s always been in a joking matter so it doesn’t bother me.

No, that’s what makes moms lose themselves in parenting. I’m sorry they’re treating you like that!

I know what you mean, people never explicitly said it to me but it still kind of bothers me that people will gun straight for my baby instead of saying hi to me. They’ll say bye to my baby with loads of conversation and kisses and give me a half arsed goodbye. Like, you do realise he’s only alive because of me, right? 😂

@Amaura I think they are trying to be jokey but I still find it annoying and unnecessary. Like every time you see the baby and multiple times, I just don’t get it. There are other ways to express how happy you are to see the baby.

@Mariam totally get that and at first I brushed it off, thinking it’s being said lighthearted but the repetition is honestly starting to get to me. Curious if it’s the same people saying it over and over to you or would that not bother you either?

@Dana 🦅♥️🤍💙 agree! I’m a person too and while you are excited to see baby there’s no need to put me down even if it’s in a joking manner.

@Levi it’s ridiculous, I’m sorry you have been dismissed. My father in law was holding my baby and I went to take him back cause he was hungry. Father in law said your milk supplier is coming. In a way like that’s all I do for baby. I was furious! No I’m baby’s mother. I grew baby and birthed baby and spend every day dedicated to baby’s needs. Like wtf is wrong with people?
