I didn’t even start collecting till my son was born (it wouldn’t come for me till then!) and he was absolutely fine so you’ve smashed it and are more than prepared with what you have!
My little boy was syringe fed for the first day and only needed 3x 1ml syringes per feed!x
Wow 👏🏼 What did you use to get this much out? Did you use an electric pump, hand express or haaka?
I would take a few and then if needed get partner or someone to drop them to you. Sadly despite mine being labelled and dated were lost at the hospital with my first baby. You’ve collected loads though so well done!
Im taking 2.5ml (1 syringe as thats the size i was given by my midwife). Think this is all i will take in, can always get my partner to fetch more if needed.
@Becca I agree. with my first, the nurses forgot to put them in the fridge. So all were wasted😪
I took 10ml for my 1st baby and this time will take 15ml. Mainly because I have latching probs with 1st child and wish I had more on me at the hosp. Like you, I have a lot of colostrum. So can risk looking some.
I brought some to the hospital but didn’t need any. Bring like two seringues maybe but if you were able to collect all of this you probably won’t need any then
@Honorine It doesn’t mean it’s not needed if you manage to collect it in the first place. You may been colostrum for a host of reasons. Perhaps baby cannot latch, baby may have tongue tie, baby may end up in NICU and can’t be breastfed. If the mother has gestational diabetes, colostrum collected before hand have be a life saver for baby is their sugars are too high or low when born. The mother may struggle to feed baby initially because their milk doesn’t come in, despite being able to collect colostrum beforehand. The mother may be rushed to surgery after birth and the birth partner can use the colostrum to feed the newborn. Also it’s so good for baby, so even if you have zero issues and feed easily right away, you can still give it to baby as a top up!! So it doesn’t go to waste. Don’t assume your experience is the same for others.
You can get the sterilised syringe for your health care provider or from pharmacy, incase you need more so once baby is born it needs to be feed every two hours, so for now you already have like one day supply so if possible take more like 50-60 ml so that mean while you can get the breastfeeding practice once you deliver there be less stress and less emotional distress or pressure of not feeding immediate , i went with 5ml syringe of 20 and 10ml of small 1 ml syringe which was provided by my doctor. Which was good for 2 days and gave me good support while learning breastfeeding practice and correct latching. All the best you doing one of the most beautiful thing 🙂
I took about 10x 7ml syringes and didn’t use any of them 🤷🏻♀️
How did you collect?? And when did you know to start collecting??
If it helps I had 90ml formula bottles for the hospital and each time she would drink max 15ml
