Weird question inflamed gums

Are OBS allowed to prescribe antibiotics for gum pain? I can’t be seen at a dentist until January 7th & my gums are in so much pain & I can only take Tylenol, currently 32 weeks pregnant 😭

Gum pain itself may not need or be helped by antibiotics. do you know for sure you have an infection? I’ve had recurrent abscesses in pregnancy (which cannot be operated on until baby comes) and was allowed antibiotics, but I was sure that antibiotics would reduce swelling. If you don’t have an infection antibiotics can’t help If you do not need antibiotics it would be irresponsible to prescribe them as there are risks and no benefit I would see if dentist can fit you in sooner to diagnose (or go see emergency dentist)

@Marilyn I had this same pain last pregnancy and they just gave me antibiotics & I was better right away , so I just figured it’s the same issue as last time. I can’t go whenever though cause my husband works & I have my son & we don’t have the car when he isn’t here so it’s hard to be seen whenever & go for an emergency

Got it - you know you if you KNOW it’s an infection get the antibiotics. (Some people have no idea and think antibiotics fix everything) Not sure if your OB can prescribe but can ask, or ask dentist if they can before appt. Tell them it’s same as last time until you get help 1) gargle w warm salt water 2x day 2) use anbesol or other numbing agent on gums along w the Tylenol you are using Good luck!

@Marilyn yes thank you idk it’s been a struggle for days it’s just so painful but I’ve used all those techniques and nothing has been working, I was in so much pain last night! Lmao

Id say it probably depends on your OB and your history. If they can see what was given last time in your record I don’t see why not. Mine would but they’ve know me for years and I’m immunocompromised so they avoid infection in me at all cost so wouldn’t want me waiting that long. Doesn’t hurt to ask them.
