@Naomi thank you, i would rather have a calm planned section than an emergency. I had a growth scan last week and they're expecting the baby to be over 8lbs and I'm fairly small (5'6) so I'm wondering whether I'll struggle to push out a larger baby too......not seeing the midwife for another couple of weeks so I'll bring it up then (and hopefully have a clearer idea of what I want!!)
If you end up having a long labour, the c-section option will still be on the table (and will be offered to you I’m sure). Also, an ‘emergency’ c-section can be just as relaxed as an elective - I had an ‘emergency’ cs after long failed induction and it was relaxed and positive. Obvs this depends on circumstance, but unplanned doesn’t necessarily mean rushed, stressful, or negative. Go with what you instinctively feel!
I think you should do what you want to do, I get that you’ll be feeling that way due to them having births that way. I would talk to your midwife plus if you are consultant led with the high blood pressure they would let you know if they advise you to have a c section over a natural birth.
I would definitely try and have baby naturally if possible, c-section recovery is awful and not to be taken lightly. I know someone who’s wound re-opened and didn’t heal properly for over 6 months. The pain takes weeks to go, 2 years later and I still have hardly any feeling across my lower stomach and a fatty overhang as a result of the c-section. The surgery itself I found terrifying and in no way calm whether it’s planned or not is scary and stressful, it’s major surgery 8lbs baby is average size I really wouldn’t be worried I know plenty of people shorter than 5ft 6 have a vaginal birth with babies that size and bigger. I’m 5ft 3 and had an 11lbs baby, I did have an emergency c-section but he was abnormally big. Baby #2 is measuring even bigger so far but I’m still in 2 minds about the c-section or whether to try and have VBAC because a c-section is not something to be taken lightly
Everyone is very quick to tell you horror stories of sections. My first was an emergency section and this time will be elective section. Yes recovery is worse than a vaginal delivery of course it is, but like someone else said within 2 weeks I wasn't really in pain anymore and was walking around up and down stairs etc. My scar didn't get infected or open up, and has healed well. Yes I have an overhang of belly where it is but if I lose weight that'll help and it's basically in my knickers anyway and a small price to pay for my baby boy! The first few weeks and months go so fast you'll be healed before you know it! I'm not advocating either way but also don't like seeing how people instantly talk so negatively about a c section when it's not exactly an easy option!
I'm having a section. My first was an emergency c section and caused trauma so a second section is what's recommended for me. Also, just found out I have a low laying placenta so I don't think I can birth naturally this time 😅 Do whatever feels right for you. Everyone's experiences of birth are so different. You could end up with a very beautiful natural birth. Just make sure you look in to the pros and cons of both so you can make an informed choice
