I'm 34 weeks and I've had a couple medium steaks. Baby and I are doing fine. In the first trimester I couldn't stand most meat and especially if the steak was cooked past medium.
@Kelli I second this.
I couldn't eat chicken during my pregnancies as it made me sick!!! My girls made me crave red meat, so I ate red meat a lot! I stuck with medium as it's the right temp, but not dry like well done. I also was a person who ate sushi occasionally and I never got sick.
I think as long as it's from a trusted, reputable place - you'll be fine. I ate my Steaks medium and was fine. My first pregnancy I craved sushi and ate it monthly and never got sick.
And happy birthday!
eat it however you like :)
I also usually like medium rate steaks. When pregnant I just avoided steak for the most part and I didn’t want to take any risks, especially after my missed miscarriage. All beef I ate was well done and cooked all the why through while pregnant.For sushi I only ate the cooked kind
If you go to a quality restaurant or have a family /friend doing it, “well done” doesn’t have to mean “tough” - I had fully-cooked steak that was still delicious & I like my steaks medium rare.
I love medium rare steaks as well. When i was preg i also was sad about having to eat it more thoroughly cooked. Once my hunny made me some deer stakes and he cooked it medium rare not realizing it.. it was soooooo good but onve he saw he threw it back in the skillet cause he didnt want to harm the baby. I ate a good amount of it and i didnt get sick. But to the sushi comment, i love live love sushi, but i tried to eat the cooked kind and it didnt agree with me. I waited til i had her before i got sushi again
I don't think i took note, though, during pregnancy was the first time I tried kangaroo (i cooked it myself) that has to be well done or just before I think so medium well done and had no problem. I probably did eat medium quite a few times as that's my liking and didn't notice and didn't know I wasn't allowed to eat it.
Medium or medium well should be fine I think.
As long as the restaurant you’re getting it from is sourcing good quality meat. You should be fine. The risk comes from a parasite disease toxoplasmosis more than the meat itself. I’ve been watching videos of Nordic women giving birth to prep myself and they eat raw reindeer meat their whole pregnancy
I think the recommendation during pregnancy is at least 145 degrees so medium well. I like mine medium so I didn't have much problem going to medium well while I was pregnant.
I did medium well while pregnant and it wasn't as good as my normal medium rare, but I had a really nice medium rare in the week or two after giving birth.
I’m betting medium would be fine. I always got medium at restaurants anyway just in case and I never had a problem with my first pregnancy (I’m on my second pregnancy currently and can’t stand any red meat) so I’d say if you can handle it and like it, order a medium
