Anaemia

So I had my 28wk blood test on 13th December that indicates anaemia. I wasn't told about it only found out today because I was looking at previous test results. I am seeing midwife tomorrow so I will bring it up then, but can untreated anaemia have any negative effects on me or baby ?

Unless your iron is very low, it's unlikely to cause any issues. If you had very low iron, you would feel utterly crap, no energy, even fainting spells. If it was cause for concern, they would have prescribed iron tablets, and ideally, you should take them in the morning on an empty stomach with orange juice (or any other vit C source). I have been told by my maternity specialist that the best absorption would be to alternate days for iron tablets. This way, you would minimise the constipation side effect

Have you had any symptoms? If not it's probably not low enough to worry, your midwife should sort out iron tablets for you, I've had the worst time with it recently, fainting, Dizziness, blurred vision, migraines, sore tongue, fatigue, out of breath, my midwife wouldn't up my iron tablets so I spoke to my GP, they were really angry with my midwife and have now changed my dose from 200mg every other day to 210mg 3 times a day so hoping I start to feel better soon!

I can't say I really know what the symptoms of anaemia are, but reading your comments I've had intense fatigue, headaches, and just generally feeling a bit crap. I have also had moments of blurred vision but put it down to bad sleep and needing new glasses. I'll bring this up with my midwife this afternoon
