Bottle refusal

Has anyone had any luck with getting their EBF baby to take a bottle after they've refused for ages? My baby is 5 months and I've been trying to get her to take a bottle for the past couple of months now. Sometimes every couple of days and other times with a bigger gap in between. I pumped a lot when she was a newborn due to troubles with her latch so she took a mam bottle with no problems. Once the latch was sorted I didn't offer a bottle for a while. Since trying again we have offered mam, tommee tippee & lansinoh. My SIL has given me a nuk perfect match bottle but I need to replace the teat.. is it worth spending the money or shall I just accept that she doesn't like bottles? (I know all babies are different but I'd just like to hear other mums experiences)

I had given up with my little girl she HATED the bottle, took a mam bottle fine for one feed a day from day 3 and then we were ill advised by our GP about oral thrush and breastfeeding which resulted in stopping bottle feeding at all and then she hated it 😞 BUT out of the blue this week she has taken a lansinoh bottle and I had stopped again even trying because she was getting so upset but something has just clicked. She is 4 months. Maybe just try and take the pressure off a little, the lansinoh bottles are meant to be great so maybe have a little pause let her get to grips with things and try again. Try her when she's in a good playful mood I found that really helped and I sat her in her rocker to give her it the other day rather than on me and then popped her out and got her to take it on me. Good luck I know it is so frustrating and can feel like a never ending battle but I felt that too! 🫶🏼

@Jenn Thank you. I haven't tried for a while (mostly because I can't be bothered to pump 😂) so I am currently relaxed about it but sometimes I get so touched out and overstimulated and that's when I wish she'd take one! I will try again at different intervals and just hope for the best then🤞

I second the lasinoh, my son is 5 months too and refused the mam bottles now (took it alright when he was smaller on the rare occasion). Helps if you’re not the one feeding your baby as well. My parents have tried feeding with a spoon too when he gets quite fussy 😭

I also go to a breastfeeding group and have done since she was only a few weeks old and it's ran by lactation consultants and they recommended trying her with a cup, as they would recommend this from 6 months anyway and apparently the motor skills needed for cup drinking are similar to breast feeding that they use their tongues in similar ways so that might be something to look into as well? Have a look online about how to introduce it to them and safe ways to do it, we were recommended a sort of sloped cup that helps the milk gently flow down to them as pouring is not recommended just let them kind of lap it but have a look at that, in fact getting her to drink from a cup and realise it was just milk was actually just before she took a bottle so even if it's just to show her that!

Ooh also, I've heard some babies just don't like frozen breast milk and can tell so when you're introducing a EBF baby to bottles there's loads of sensations that don't add up or feel right so I tried hand expressing just enough to fill the teat directly into the bottle and this seemed to help too!

@Jenn Thanks for the advice. I have heard about cups and actually have a doidy cup in my Amazon basket and a silicone cup to try for weaning so good idea to try with breast milk! My baby definitely doesn't like frozen breast milk as I have high lipase so I always have to do it fresh!
