Anatomy scan

Hey guys, my 20 week scan is up tomorrow and I'm a little anxious... wondering if anyone who has had theirs can shed some light on what to expect?

Hey! I had mine on Friday and same as you I was really anxious going in but everything was absolutely fine and I’m sure it will be for you and your little one as well. They’ll be checking that baby is developing as they should be so things like their heart, kidneys, spine etc and then they’ll also check the placement of your placenta. They’ll also likely ask if you want to know babies gender (if you don’t already know) so that will be super exciting for you if you do want to find out!

Mines on Wednesday and I'm also anxious! X

I was the same for mine but happened earlier this week and was absolutely fine! They are really lovely, go through everything thoroughly, point out everything that they are looking for (Organs mainly, bone structure and making sure all the arms, legs, feet and hands are there!) and explain it to you at the same time. It's a longer scan, I think mine was about 20 minutes. It's amazing to see little one again and in such detail, see all the parts developing! I loved it when they zoomed in on their little lips 😍 I'm sure you'll be fine, I was super anxious but I had nothing to worry about 😊 x

I also have mine tomorrow and anxious. Good luck tomorrow!

I would say if you’re going to find out gender in my experience they didn’t make too much of a big deal out of it just ‘and it’s a girl’. I guess because that’s not what they’re there for, more to check on the baby. Just to bear in mind. And often they go quite quiet, doesn’t mean anything’s wrong just concentrating. It’s lovely to see baby for so long x

@Becky wishing you good luck too!

@Katie oh now I'm excited! Have had a few private scans for reassurance reasons, but I'm looking forward to having an actual detailed scan where I can see everything up close now. I've been feeling pretty calm about it, but today a wash of nerves have just come over me.. I'm sure everything will be fine too x

@Ann-Marie good luck for Wednesday, I'm sure everything will go well x

Like everyone else has said, I had mine this week and it was so reassuring ❤️ they check the baby thoroughly, they let me know what they were looking at and that it all seemed normal and healthy. I did have to walk around for 10 mins in the middle of it, because baby wouldn’t turn over and show his spine 😂 it’s quite a long appointment so make sure you don’t have anywhere to rush off to!

@Chantelle It's honestly a really lovely experience - some parts I don't understand how they know which organ is which as they just look like blobs to me but some parts are so detailed and lovely to see 🥰 I didn't have any other scans between my 12-20 week ones so was really nervous and worried that everything might not be okay but I was so reassured 😊 Just try to relax - sometimes if they can't quite get an accurate reading you might have to go back but it's not anything to worry about unless they say so! They almost couldn't get to the spine for my little one as my bladder was too full but they asked me to pee and re-measured and was perfect 😊 you'll be fine x

@Chantelle you too hun! Let us know how it goes? X

Wish you all the best with the scan! Mine was absolutely beautiful, amazing to see him wriggling on the screen and how he’s developing 🥰

@Katie bless you! I don't know how us women do this, pregnancy is one of the most nerve-wracking experiences EVER in life - I'd have a scan every 4 or so days if it wasn't harmful for baby! Glad to hear everything went well for you and your lo.

@Shelby thank you x

@Ann-Marie definitely will do!

Mine is next week and I am absolutely 💩 myself. This is my 2nd pregnancy. With my first, we was told at our 20 week scan my daughter had a cleft lip. We then had multiple appts with our hospital and also with Leeds with regards to her care and the unknown extend of it. The sonograoher didn't tell us until the very end of the scan that she had identified a problem. She said "all okay" when she was checking her facial features. Next thing we know, a midwife knocks on the door, and we're being told. All I can say is, IF anything is identified at the scan, there will be endless support (which can feel overbearing at times. Especially when you're paying bloody hospital car parking charges 🤨). Although you're baby maybe absolutely fine, just know that if anything is identified, you'll be supported and guidance will be given. You wouldn't go away empty-handed. I hope this doesn't give you any further anxiety. I just wanted to provide some relief that you wouldn't be left to walk away to go google the worse

So pleased! Baby is healthy, with the ultrasound showing everything growing as it should be! Can't wait to meet my beautiful boy 💙

@Chantelle that's amazing!!!! How was it all?

@Ann-Marie it was beautiful, I cried seeing my baby flutter around on-screen 🥹 just as someone mentioned last night it was strange yet amazing to see baby up close and in so much detail, I'm in awe considering he resembled a little butter bean a couple months ago! Be prepared for the uncomfortable prodding that you may feel, the sonographer really does well to get a good look. You let me know how it goes on Wednesday, send me a message if anything xx

@Chantelle I'm so pleased for you!!! I bruised after the 12 week one and I'm on aspirin this time, not looking forward to it 🤣 I will let you know. 2 more sleeps!

@Ann-Marie thank you! Oh no, that sounds awful! Two more sleeps until you get to see your little one, and fingers crossed your sonographer is gentler this time ❤️
