Herpes is herpes. Whether it's from the genital or cold sores. They are still in the same disease family... Herpes simplex virus. Herpes can cause brain damage and death to infants due to how the virus lives in the nerves. Definitely hold to your boundaries. I had to educate my husband and his whole family on this as his grandmother gets cold sores. Infant immune systems are not regulated enough to fight off these kinds of infections that early in life. I'm in the medical field and work with NICU babies. You got this and stay strong.
We are not letting anyone kiss our newborn. The grandparents aren't happy, but I don't care. Nothing is worth taking a chance with his health. A cold sore is herpes, and it stays in your body forever.. highly contagious through kissing. Flu, COVID, RSV, norovirus are all going around right now
No one kissed my first baby, and no one will kiss this one either. I don't have a lot of "rules" but you kiss my baby you don't get the baby. It is the only thing I've ever asked for and I will continue doing so.
show him pictures of babies getting infected via kissing. and growing up dealing with the sores super sad reality i would never wish upon anyone.
It’s just lack of knowledge… and he doesn’t trust your word, so I would have him come to your next doctor appointment and you ask the doctor questions to have him hear it from a “professional”.
I won’t even let family be seeing my baby for a month after he’s here(besides my mom and sister who will be at the hospital with me) me and my husband and toddler just got over RSV right after Christmas and that has scared me into seeing anyone any time soon it was extremely rough. So no you’re not crazy for saying no to kisses. It’s not forever and eventually they can have all the baby kisses they want.

Herpes is a risk from kissing newborns but also things like rsv or bacterial or viral pneumonia or other respiratory diseases that can be deadly to a newborn. I would definitely have your husband do some research on why no one except mom or dad should be kissing a new baby... my youngest who is now 2 was diagnosed with rsv and covis at 2 months old because grandma kissed him after being asked not to and he ended up in UC Davis medical center for over a week thankfully we had a good outcome but so many babies don't im currently pregnant with baby 4 and is gonna be born any day now and no one will be holding baby untill at least a month or so to avoid risking baby being sick
