My son has been at nursery a month or so now and still cries every time the door of his nursery room opens when he sees it’s not me or his dad. His first 2 settle sessions were just tears. It does get better once they click that it’s a fun place to play but a loved one always comes back!
My boy cried his first full day there (like non-stop all day apparently), 2nd day he was cautious but only cried for an hour after drop and then when we picked him up. Over the next month that reduced to about 15mins at drop off and then on pick up. Pick up crying is usually just "im so tired mummy please take me home to my bed". Next month was only crying if he lingered at drop off (best to dump and run). Now he practically runs away from us on arrival and can't get to the ladies there quick enough for a hug.
My August baby started in September, I only send mine in for 2 mornings a week but both of them took their own times in settling in. For the first 4-6 weeks my husband kept telling me he was too young to go and needed me etc. because he was so emotional at drop offs and pick ups but honestly persevere. He’s been in since September and now he runs in and can’t wait to say bye to me 😂 they are so tiny and precious, it takes them time to trust which is a good thing and to adjust and will take more than 1 or 2 sessions! Don’t feel bad though, it’s fab for them. My little boy is thriving!
Our daughter started her settle ins the day after her first birthday and I'd say it took her 5 weeks of crying/ being unsettled, especially at drop off and when she got tired. We did a few extra mornings on Fridays as they're quieter and she only does two full days. She now absolutely loves it, waves me goodbye and goes straight over to a member of staff. She's in her element there and we've actually added on another half day a week from last week! Hang in there, she'll get there ☺️ there was a stage where I thought my daughter would hate it forever 🤣 but it all just clicks x
