I try to avoid meds as much as possible and do more homemade/natural remedies instead first. If those don’t help I’ll resort to painkillers. I hate taking medicine myself. Usually I avoid taking anything. Headache, just power through, after my second was born I honestly didn’t even fill my prescription for the painkillers. For teething pain I go towards frozen things to chew on, I really love putting frozen breast milk into a silicone/mesh feeder and letting my kids chew on that to help relieve the pain. For colds as long as they’re older than 1 I make a “tea” for my kids which has honey and some lemon juice for flavor. Constipation I go for any p fruit or juice (prune, pear, etc) If you really want to avoid big pharma look up holistic remedies. So many people post recipes and videos explaining what is beneficial and what to use things for
I don’t think there is an issue with using non narcotic pain meds. Unless I’m messing something. However, I only use Motrin or Tylenol when they have fevers and uncomfortable.
@Haley 💚 I agree I thought the whole thing with big pharma was they basically knowingly over prescribed pain meds to patients for money knowing they were addicting. For teething I may use an over the counter gel or something, regardless medicine is only used when needed in my house.
@Jodi There is a lot more issues with big pharma than just the famous addiction story .
I legit wait for my son to ask for medicine, ever since he started teething at 3 months, Id just ask him if he needed it. (We’d call infant acetaminophen teeth medicine lol) He’s incredible at feeling his body & communicating his needs. Also doing it that way prevents a lot of medicine being spit out lol I also give slightly below the recommended dosage to his weight, just cause that’s what my intuition said to do lol I am a firm believer that babies come out the womb knowing one thing; their own bodies & feelings.
I use them as necessary but not first thing. We try homeopathic things first before giving medicines. We love Earthley for all the things and take their supplements and tinctures before starting a medicine.
What @Haley 💚 said. And no, I don’t take narcotic painkillers.
Only when absolutely nessicary and after all home remedies have been exhausted. I never take any pain meds myself either.
I give my children fever reducers when they have fevers (100.4+) and I give pain killers when they’re complaining of severe pain. I’ve never given my daughter (under age 2) pain medicine for just pain as I’ve never recognized she needed it aside from being really sick and already having a fever. My son is old enough where if he is in severe pain he will ask me. He hates taking medication so if he asks it’s serious enough to need it.
If I’m in pain, I take a painkiller. If I need to poop, I take a laxative. If I have indigestion, I take an omeprazole. I’m not going to let my baby suffer unnecessarily just because of some lofty principles about Big Pharma. Let’s face it, a lot of misinformation about pharmaceuticals is also being put about by Big Wellness.
@Sharon ‼️
@Sharon this! Im scared of narcotics but anything else goes!
@Haley 💚 I believe there may be some dyes in certain kids medicine? ( and these dyes can have adverse effects on us , although I do think they’re in most processed food products too ) I could very possibly be wrong I’d need to look into it further Just a thought lol
@Sharon one could even argue that the wellness industry is causing more harm than good 👀 a bunch of uneducated people getting their information from other uneducated people who do their research on social media and mom blogs.

@Olivia yes I’ve heard of the dyes. I buy dye free whenever that’s an option. I also think it’s generally only a problem when it’s overly consumed. Taking red Tylenol every once in a while probably won’t hurt.
@Haley 💚 most companies have been taking the dye out and only having dye free versions too actually
@Parker 又 just seen that some of the dyes that are commonly used in the USA but are restricted or banned in the uk ! Crazy
@Olivia yeahhh but still even in America in the last 4-5 years I wanna say there’s been a big shift where most medicine that’s geared towards kids no longer has dyes included like their all dye free aside from a few
I think that my husband uses them unneccasarily a lot of the time. I don't use them as much because, as a lot of the time they're full of sugar (regardless if its fake or real) & the body can become dependent on them.
I try other things before giving medicine cuz ibuprofen and acetaminophen are pretty bad for u
Why would I let my kid be in pain when I can give them something to help?
This is why I like the UK, nobody prescribes stuff for any financial incentive and responsibility of the drug prescription lies with the prescriber.
Homeopathic meds! Earthley and Mama Ruth
We opt for natural medicine - homeopathic remedies, herbs, & food.We use homeopathic remedies, herbs, & food. Pharmaceuticals are an absolute last resort. In almost 10 years of parenting, we've only used pharmaceuticals twice, both time for a severe poison ivy reaction on the face.
@Victoria~ this pills are so dangerous but I think people only think of hard drugs when they think of dangerous drugs .
@Sarah🦄 they definitely interfere with the bodies natural way of dealing with pain .
I give Tylenol :) that’s it
My kids don’t take meds ever they’ve never needed to and when I do need to give them something I’ve done homeopathic medicine, herbs, vitamins - natural remedies , nursing etc . I operate with the old adage from Hippocrates - “let thy food be thy medicine “💕💕My husband and I are both more natural oriented when it comes to taking meds for pain etc
An anti-inflammatory diet full of bioavailable vitamins and minerals Breastfeeding into toddlerhood if possible Zero ultra processed foods /limit sugar A high quality multivitamin with good levels of vitamin D, vitamin A. Homeopathy Medicinal herbs Cranial osteopath A low tox life/home (BPA/phtalates/fragrance/mold/teflon/ and all other nasty chemicals. Also, let a fever be! A fever is the body’s way to fight an infection and should not be suppressed unless dangerously high (the body rarely goes there).

@Dominique lol I literally just updating to nursing I always do on demand around the clock 💕💕 & I agree with your sentiments on fever etc
@Dominique wow you mean the only 2 options are not buying from big pharma or wellness companies? Huh! We can just choose to live a healthy lifestyle by cooking and eating well, even growing our own food, Instead of curing symptoms every week ,you could live such a healthy lifestyle that you barely need medicine.people training their bodies to depend on drugs to solve every symptom without first healing their gut is baffling. Then we pass this behavior to our children,as if constantly taking medications is totally normal..
Almost all of our health problems are food related.
@Offy as a preventative measure we use diet and a healthy lifestyle. When my son is ill with a ear infection or a really high temperature I run to herbs and homeopathy very happily x
It’s a lot of work to actually do things naturally.and it pays very well as we grow older .
We only use them when we felt necessary, I think when a child is visibly in pain & uncomfortable to the point they can’t settle & you’ve tried other things ( especially when baby is younger there’s alot of options for teething id try before Calpol ) but if nothing works I’d use Calpol I only take them when I have a migraine ( or an injury) Each to their own though no judgement if you go straight to Calpol I just think if you use it often it won’t have much of an effect when you do really need it to work
