How do you gym after baby?

Heya folks! Baby two arrives any day now and once he arrives I’d like to start going to the gym and eating well again. It’s been three years of gradual weight gain. 30kgs (over 60 pounds). 😢 When do you folks find the time to go to the gym and exercise? I live in a small house so workouts at home are not easy. I have a toddler too so I need to find solutions that work around two little ones but I really want to feel good in my skin again. Any help is appreciated xx

Look for gyms that offer child care

I don't 🫠 the only solution I could find was to buy some very small equipment to use at home (hydraulic stepper, some dumbbells), and do body weight exercises. I try and do a short workout either while my toddler naps or while he's playing.

I’m going to the local David Lloyd’s but I’m doing shared leave with my husband so will only be able to go for 6 months before returning to work. So after that it’s somehow managing gym around kids, which is the biggest mystery!

Definitely thinking about some hidden at home stuff but I’d have to close the curtains or do stuff outside in the cold. Why can’t exercise be something easy to arrange? 😂

After 6 months could you go early morning and your husband can look after the baby and you can get back in time to get ready for work?

I’ve also got a walking pad which has been a big help!

Instead of a stroller use a baby carrier for your NB. The extra weight of the baby while walking makes a huge difference. Also try leggings with built in resistance bands for toning. Do pelvic floor exercises which are mostly breathing and core strengthening and require no space. There’s lots of baby wearing workouts online. They have little space requirements. Drink lots of water and make sure to get enough sleep. 80% of weight loss is diet and only 20% exercise. Preprep healthy food to pull out of the freezer before baby arrives and get rid of unhealthy snacks. Avoid soda and juice. Limit oil. Sub sauces for citrus, herbs, spices, and peppers for flavoring, sub refined sugars for fruit and tea, and sub grains for veggies like cauliflower rice and zoodles or spaghetti squash for pasta. Eat lean meats, eggs, cottage cheese, and eat some seeds and nuts but monitor them since they’re high in calories. Making the decision to get in shape is the most important step! You’ve got this! 👍👏

I think my husband would probably do it if I bribed him enough 😂 Do you have a link for the walking pad? I’ve been tempted by one for ages, I even got a standing desk when I was working just for one!

I found a gym with child care. I also explained what I needed to my child's father and came up with a schedule that worked for us. I asked a family member for help. I also made a routine I could do at home in my small space. Chair exercises are good.

I follow a girl on Instagram and she’s a pt and influencer. She didn’t go back to the gym for 7 weeks. She’d called Katrina McKenna and she’s no BS influencer check her out for support on getting back in shape

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old and I work full time in a nursery, I’m too tired to go to the gym now 🫠😂 determined to make this the year I go back, just going to have to push through the tiredness in the evenings once they go to bed!

I’ll definitely check out Katrina and see what she suggests, thank you!

The struggle is real, Katrina! So wiped out at the end of the day but let me know if you make it, it’ll be great motivation x

Assuming they are in childcare when you go back to work - just go on your lunch break? There are local classes that you can take your baby too. Better in the summer when baby can stay in the pram and you can do a class in the park or something

I take it in turns with my husband, one has the kids and the other goes to.the gym :)

I’m stil on mat leave but I find time to do a late night swim x3 once the kids are in bed x

I do a mix: go to the Y when I can, includes child care) or i do workout at home using GrowithJo on Youtube

Join a gym with a childcare facility

What worked for me was going out for long walks everyday with my kids in a stroller

I have a personal trainer to keep me motivated. I usually go when my partner is home. You can consult postnatal trainers for more advice
