I don’t like this kind of scheme I think this is accurate I’m more chill on this I feel they need their time so I’m asking if someone experienced the same and in person I did talk with few mom who said they kid start talk late just happened and say a lot words all in once but I’m curious if someone else also get that

@Natascia Its not really a question of liking the science or not. The science is the science. Its not really up for debate. There is a big language boom around 18-24 months. For some kids, it comes later than others, but it depends on the kid and is not necessarily gender specific. I personally wouldn't wait much more as the gap between the 3 words you say your son has and the 50 words of the milestone is a rather large gap.

The earlier you get interventions like speech therapy the better results you’ll see long term. And it can open up other resources that might help more! Theres even bilingual speech therapists who can work with you & your child in both languages! However from what I’ve heard it’s common to see slightly delayed speech in multilingual households because the brain is working on processing both languages, however once their over the slight delay/hump there’s typically a big explosion with speech. My half brothers both went to speech therapy & both didn’t start really speaking til after 2.5 years old, and only one of em is autistic.

We’ve been going to speech therapy since about August-October time frame and I personally don’t think it speed up my son speaking. He has started to say more / babble more but I do believe he would have done this on his own. I am a stay at home mom and he doesn’t have too much interactions with kids his age. As of Jan we have stopped speech therapy twice a week and are now going once every other month just not to loose the relationship with therapist if we have to return again. She taught me small things as a mom I can do better to help my son speak but I dont think she was the cause of him speaking more. However, it was nice to hear from a speech therapist that she did not believe he has a learning/vocal disability at all, that in her option he just was not ready yet. My son also only knows about 3 words, outside of him just starting to say “mom, bubba, sissy and dad” allllll 4 coming out the same day - this week! We are two weeks prior to his 2nd birthday for reference

Children are generally talking by 2, but every child develops at their own pace. Bilingual children tend to speak later, and I’ve seen children only saying a handful of words at 2 and go on to speak properly with no developmental issues. That being said, since you’re posting on here, jt sounds like you’re starting to become concerned. I would recommend at least speaking with your child’s pediatrician to get some professional advice. Many parents don’t want to pursue intervention because they feel it means there is something wrong with their child but that is absolutely not the case! Every child is different! In Colorado they offer free interventions under 3 so we decided to take advantage of it for our son’s benefit and he’s been in speech therapy since he was 1 (he says 4/5 word sentences now) If New York also offers free intervention, you should definitely take advantage, since it can only benefit your son and if you don’t see any progress then you can always stop the service

My son will be 2y on the 27th and we've been going to speech therapy since he was 18m. I personally do not believe that it's helping him at all. He has said 2 words and made 1 new animal sound while physically at his appointments. He goes for 2 hours a month (30 minutes once a week). Every other word or sound he has made has been when he's been at home. And he still doesn't really say more than a handful of words. He does know some sign language but it's just so frustrating that he isn't speaking a lot more since he's been going to speech therapy.
