Do babies really need to go to cows milk?

I’m not a cow milk type of child. Couldn’t do it when pregnant, nor postpartum. There are other options so I’m just trying to get a consensus of y’all’s thoughts And why….

Technically by nature we're not meant to have any other milk besides human. They don't need cow's milk the only requirement from 12 months to 23 months is that it be full fat or whole milk because it is essential to their brain development at this age. After the 23-month mark you can go to fat free or low fat if you wish. A lot of the time it's recommended to do cow's milk because it has more calories, protein, vitamin d, and calcium. Granted these things can be found in milk alternatives or other foods but as long as they are getting their nutrients that they need it doesn't really matter what kind of milk you give them.

Curious about this too. Like what are the milk substitutions? I know of a 2yr old who is just obsessed with milk to the point of being constipated all the time so I’m not looking to cause a milk addiction.

We're doing goats milk, just started it and so far my son seems to like it

Goat milk is best

Nope. We haven’t and won’t. I breastfed my first till she was 2.5. And my second is 10 months and we’re still going strong. There is no need for us to have other animals milk or milk in general after a certain age.

Goat milk! Baby likes it as formula so we might continue to use goat milk as the alternative when he turns 1

How long do you even need to offer any type of milk?

Fortified soy actually has a very similar nutrients make up to cows milk.

No they don’t, I never transitioned my kids to whole milk after they stopped nursing, and don’t plan on doing it with my 11 month old as of next week.

Thank you alll. This was very reassuring! I’m glad there are so many like minds!

@Ashley thank you. So at my sons 12 month appointment. He’s only 19lbs and I realize my milk supply has been decreasing due to the current pregnancy. So his dr said “ whole milk” however that’s not something I want to do. But like you said the vitamins and etc is what the man also said to me. So what do you give your baby? To help keep weight on then?
