Do you think men and women are hardwired to need different levels of sleep?

Context: my other half is forever telling me to nap when the baby sleeps during the day (if that actually happens is a different story 😴) and doesn’t understand when I say that, despite only getting 3-5 hours broken sleep overnight, I don’t always feel tired.

I’m pretty sure it’s been proven that women typically require more sleep than men

There’s data to suggest women need significantly more sleep then men.

Show your other half the research, there is plenty showing that women need more sleep

Sleep needs vary from person to person so whilst gender is part of the equation there are other factors which will influence your individual sleep needs.

@Lara I was coming to say that! I was reading about this recently. What's also interesting is that despite that I think (generally) women cope better with less sleep than men do.

I am exactly the same, my husband keep telling me to go to sleep but I do not feel tired, I actually have energy to clean the house

@Rebecca I was coming to say this. While I know I need more sleep, I know I can survive on 5 hours much better than my husband can x

There’s actual science on it. Women need more sleep. •Men run on a hormonal cycle that resets every 24 hours. •Women run on a hormonal cycle that resets about every month.

@Rebecca I reckon we just complain about it less 😂😂

@Claire same! And that's not unusual! X

@Lara that's a good point 😂

We need more sleep. But women still seem to be able to function on less sleep then men in my experience.
