Toothpaste

We went to see the health visitor this morning, who told me that now baby girl has her first tooth, they recommend adult toothpaste with high amounts of fluoride in. I'm to rub it on her teeth and let her 'play around' with it and swallow it. Has anyone else been told this? Seems strange that I'm being told to let her swallow it when it specifically says on the tube not to ingest as fluoride can cause an upset stomach. Also, what is wrong with specifically designed baby toothpaste that is fluoride free? I left with more questions than I went in with 🫠

Honestly, the most bizarre advice i think I've beeb given so far 😂 thank you for that, we don't get packs like that, that i know of, but I definitely won't be letting her swallow it!

Honestly, was it a rogue dentist? 😅😂

I use toothpaste without fluoride in it because I’ve researched its effects so now way would I being using it on a baby! Use a baby toothpaste as they swallow it. Such strange advice hun!

My HV came to see us this morning and gave me toothpaste for my LB and told me to swill his mouth out as he won't know to spit it

@Mee I also use fluoride free toothpaste so am not overly keen on giving baby high content fluoride 🙄 @Nikita have no idea where she got this information from, but I'm so glad i haven't listened to her!

High amounts of fluoride ?!?? For a baby?! wtf 🤦🏻‍♀️ Amazed people still use toothpaste with fluoride in general let alone giving it to a baby! HV are not qualified dentists 🤣

I recently went to a starting solids workshop and they also encouraged using adult toothpaste with fluoride in it but said it should be a tiny smear and not encouraged to swallow it

I don’t think that’s correct advice - adult tooth paste is too high in fluoride …but you should get a kids one with fluoride otherwise it’s pointless xx d

I’ve been advised not to use toothpaste until bubs is 18 months. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve been recommended more natural toothpastes without the fluoride or just plain water.
