Speech delay

Hey feb mamas! My little girls speech is delayed and it’s worrying me as I am seeing a lot of children the same age speaking very well and saying a lot! My daughter’s nursery has referred us but the wait list is very long I’m told. My daughter has a very good understanding so understands what I’m Saying and can say a good amount of words but doesn’t put words together to make little sentences etc which she should be doing at this age. She does natter a lot but in her toddler language which I don’t understand , it’s like babbling but she seems to really be trying to talk loads but just the words aren’t coming out. Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone else have

I have a son the same age and he’s non verbal but he’s autistic. My oldest son (now 16) didn’t speak at all until he was 4 (he’s not autistic) it just came out one day! Please don’t compare her to other children they all develop at different stages. She will be talking in no time

Thankyou that is reassuring :) she does say a little but it’s more just words and not sentences or putting words together xx

Yeah as long as she’s getting something out the rest will come in time and she’ll be chewing your ear off in conversation before you know it

Mine is the same she’s on the waiting list for speech therapy , she says certain words and can say little sentences but a lot of what she says isn’t recognisable or wouldn’t be to strangers anyway but she is really trying and has starting trying to sing along to songs now .

@Katie yes I’m exactly the same! The waitlist I hear is very long and around a 1 year wait which is not great! Xx

She had her first appointment about 6 weeks ago to get the ball rolling where she was accessed and there has been a big improvement which has just happened naturally so I’m hoping she will just progress herself as waiting a year is no good really .

Yes my little girl is exactly the same.

Hey, I’ve just seen this and my little boy is turning 3 on Feb and is also not talking. He says less than 5 works and we are on the waiting list. However when we did see a speech therapist when he was about 2.5 years they reassured me and had no concerns as his understanding is very good and understands instructions and etc. seeing your post and the comments of other mammas in the same position has reassured me. I hope my comment will slightly reassure someone else also

The nursery also said to us that she isn't really playing or interacting with other children either is that the same with yours?

@Jodie yeah they have said she’ll try but where she can’t speak with them she finds it difficult but she does try. She seems to watch and try and copy Is that what your little one does? X

From what they are saying she is not just interested. She will play along side them but not with them. She rather seek adult attention

@Jodie I feel like some kids are just More independent with play, just like how some adults prefer being alone. My daughter likes to take herself off to the art corner and do that alone xx

For some Children their speech naturally comes in later, just keep doing fun activities with her, my nephew only started speaking after he turned 3 as well as a few other kids I know
