Melton midwife’s are amazing went there for all three of my kids. I would say if you’re low risk and only wanting gas and air melton is a good choice but if you’re wanting to go to the hospital the general are way better than the royal. With the royal you need to keep in mind that it’s Leicester’s main hospital so if emergency pregnancy come in they will leave you to take care of them first. The royal is really busy as well whereas the general is more relaxed.
Do you have gestational diabetes if not then you could request to give birth at Mary’s in melton Mowbray . I have a 14 month now but I gave birth at LRI never again will I go back there is a reason why women are now sueing there and it’s been in the news for neglect with child births and support . I had GD and was going to get induced on the Monday and they kept me in till Friday kept saying “I was next “ I ended up kicking off and getting myself discharged thanks to a student nurse please please advocate for yourself when going to give birth or going in because personally they don’t care 🤷 . When I got discharged I ended up going back in few hours later as my water broke I have sever latex allergy and they put the balloon in me full of latex yet it said on my wrist and my bed and boards no latex and I blew up and was burning I then ended up going for natural and ended having emergency c section after that they leave you to it they don’t help with breastfeeding either
For me as I was low risk and wanted a natural birth with minimal medical interference it was a toss up between st Mary’s and a homebirth. In the end, I opted for a homebirth. They are an absolutely amazing option to consider too. St Mary’s was my second option if the homebirth team were too busy to accommodate another homebirth. I had an amazing labour at home all the way until I was about 7-8cm, then they detected fetal distress so had to go to the royal. My home birth midwife came with me in the ambulance. After about 20 mins of getting there I had given birth. The midwives I had at the royal were great. One was a student and the other had to be transferred over from the general as they were so busy.
Thanks so much everyone this really really helps, really appreciate your comments 🫶🏼
I gave birth in the Royal and only used gas and air, it was lovely, the midwife there was so helpful.
I have heard Melton Mowbray is lovely, unfortunately I heard a horror story of a friends friend that completely put me off. Without going into detail they basically couldn’t get her to a hospital in an emergency in time. I’m sure it’s only a one off. I’ve heard mixed things are LRI it’s depends on who’s on shift by the sounds of it but as it’s the closest & has all facilities I wouldn’t choose anywhere else…. I just know going in i won’t be shy to scream & stand my ground on if I don’t like my treatment. I’ve been there a few times in other situations/departments & found the noiser you are the better treatment you get the quieter you are your forgotten
Hey, I’m currently 12 weeks! I had my initial midwife appointment at St Mary’s in Melton and it was wonderful! They showed me the birthing rooms and it looks like private care! My only concern was not having doctors on site, as it’s run by midwives but they’ve assured me if it’s a low risk pregnancy, that you can have your baby there! And if they see any signs that you’d need more emergency care than they can provide there, they’d get you to the Royal in more than enough time! I think my mind’s made up! 😁
