Weaning

How do we start weaning at 18 months? She still feeds to sleep and I would like to stop that. Im not against giving her bottles but im so done breastfeeding. But cows milk makes her constipated.

We had to use whole milk lactaid brand for our son. Honestly if the only feed left is the one before bed that’s the hardest to wean. Start giving a bottle right before offering the breast. Then slowly stop offering the breast altogether. Have you tried not feeding to sleep? My first born was shockingly easy to wean.

If you don’t want to use cows milk, or sons nutritionist suggests ripple milk kids . It gave our second born diarrhea but our first born loved it 😂

@Anna so give the bottle right before the feed and hope she falls asleep with the bottle first? We've tried not feeding to sleep and she just screams til she throws up soooo we dont do that.

I would attempt to give the bottle before the feed yes, if you give dinner right before bed you can try offering it like 15 minutes into dinner and then feed and try to slowly move that bottle closer to bed time. That’s my advice, anyways! I didn’t complete my breastfeeding courses but from what I recall I’d start there and if you have any troubles I’d contact her pediatrician or a breastfeeding counselor through the hospital you gave birth in (if they offer those services they should be able to help). I’d also introduce something during the nursing time for her to focus on like a lovey, small stuffy, or other comfort item. Try shortening the nursing time after some time. It will probably take at least a month to wean the night feed, if not longer.
