Driving post c section

How soon after your c section were you comfortable driving? My doctor doesn't have a specific week, it's just based on our pain levels. Last time I think I started driving around 4-6 weeks but I had a slow recovery. This time (second c section) my pain levels are much more manageable so I am hoping it will be sooner!

My doctor said when I wasn’t using the stronger pain meds and if I was comfortable being able to slam on the brakes

i started at about 3 n a half weeks as the seatbelt didn’t hurt was a bit tender going over bumps but overall was comfortable x

@Samantha mine said the same. How long did it take you? Right now I still feel sore with every little bump on the road

Not sure if it’s the same in the US but I had to wait 6 weeks after as my car insurance wouldn’t cover if I drove before that (UK)

@Cheryl wow, I never heard about that! I don't think that's the case here or the doctor would mention it. Probably wouldn't work with our terrible public transit and lack of maternity leave 🙃

@Caroline ahh yes never even thought about that! How long do you get maternity leave?

My doc said as long as I could look over my shoulder / slam on the brakes. (Canada) I drove to an app 5 days later and was fine. But didn’t make it consistent for like 1.5 weeks.

@Cheryl I get 6 weeks paid and up to 12 weeks FMLA (unpaid or use vacation time) - and I'm lucky to have that! Last pregnancy it was just unpaid leave or using any vacation time I had saved up

@Cheryl wow I never heard that

@J it varies depending on the insurance company but mine was in t&cs! I was so fed up and basically housebound for 6 weeks 😂

Can you slam on the breaks comfortable and pick up a child in need? That’s what my doc said was the pulse check. I didn’t drive or trust myself until at least 6 weeks

I think i was 7-8 days post c-section , i recovered extremely fast. But be careful

After my first two my doctors said 2 weeks, after this one they said 4-6 but I started driving again at 2.

There's a c-section pillow for your seat belt on Amazon. It helped me a ton

I believe 2 weeks. I drove myself to my 2 week post operation appointment

I wasn’t told when to, but i waited between 6-8weeks. Think it was mainly after having my 6week review. I was too scared to do any damage to myself

6 weeks on the day! Lol I enjoyed having my husband do all the driving until then. But then it got to a point where I had to lol

You really shouldn’t be driving for at least 4 weeks. If you have an accident your wound could open, it may feel / looked healed and feel okay not being painful but internally you may not have completely repaired and healed properly

I drove to my 2 week appointment and my doctor said “you can resume driving if you haven’t already.” I didn’t take any prescription pain meds so would have been fine earlier intoxication-wise. Physically, I would have felt comfortable around 1.5 weeks.

I was cleared after 2 weeks but felt slightly uncomfortable until 3 weeks

I had to drive about a week and a half after to the drs and I felt pretty comfortable I was just worried about accidents because I didn’t wanna tear anything. But I was fine when driving I had no other help for dr visits while hubby was back at work.

my dr. said 2 weeks. I waited probably 3-4. when I could slowly turn to check my blindspot and all my mirrors

@Courtney wouldn't that be the same whether you are the passenger or driver though? Someone almost rear ended us on the way home from the hospital last week 😖

I honestly felt like I could have driven home. Didn’t see the issue but i didn’t drive until 10 days after but didn’t do any unnecessary journeys

@Caroline I did around 2 1/2 weeks - 3 weeks. There was only a dull ache and I wasn’t on any pain meds at all
