Birth plan

I have always wanted a water birth and I know no birth is a walk in a park but I am really considering opting for a C-section but I’m worried people are going to think I’m letting them down or my body down. What’s everyone’s thoughts on C-sections and I know some of you couldn’t help but have a c-section due to complications or risks, I hope I’m Not offending anyone as I’m trying to word it as best as I can without upsetting anyone x

what you do with your body isn’t letting ANYONE down? they should not get a say or opinion at all… if a c-section is less stressful for you as an individual (which i understand it does take the element of spontaneous labour/unknown away) then that is completely ok!!! likewise some people prefer vaginal as they don’t think the healing time of a section is something they can endure… we all have reasons for birthing the way WE want to xx

@Olivia thank you, I’ve got my birth plan with my midwife next week and I have so much anxiety talking to her about it, and I’m just so uncomfortable now like I feel like baby is growing but my stomach isn’t x

@Shannon message anytime you want to chat love, it can all be stressful and confusing… it’s takes a village remember🩷

You aren’t letting anyone down or yourself. I personally am opting for a c-section due to previous birth trauma and not wanting an induction and I won’t lie I am a bit gutted I won’t get the whole waters breaking and birthing experience I’d dreamed of but after weighing up my options and going through it all I’ve decided on what’s safer for me and baby x

@Olivia thank you, and vise versa if I can help x

@Emma that is totally reasonable, I think a lot of women get told to have this expectation of what the “perfect” birth is and it puts so much pressure on us x

I have opted for an elective c-section, this is my first baby, and I did so much research and came to the conclusion that for me the recovery of a c-section outweighed all of the potential risks/end results of a natural/induction birth! Feel free to message me x

I'm hoping for another vaginal birth because I'm petrified of a c section. There's nothing easy about birth, however baby comes out! Anyone who has any unhelpful comments on what you choose (or have to do for the safety of you and baby) can get in the bin.

I had a c-section with my first but hoping for a vbac this time but that is mostly due to having a 21 month at home and the recovery of a section will be so much harder with them. It’s completely up to you how you give birth though and the midwifes should support your decision.

Have whatever type of birth you want :) . Elective c-sections are performed around 39 weeks if that helps x

@Tiffany If you dont mind me asking what was your reason for c-section? I am thinking about asking for a c-section but feel like they will say No as my reasons are not “good enough” x

I have just been booked in for a c-section on maternal request, not for medical reason. I was fully supported throughout my decision making, and one midwife was even concerned in case I felt she was trying to put me off. I saw my midwife, then a midwife consultant, then an obstetrics doctor to discuss risks and benefits, but not once did I feel like it was anything other than my choice- escalation through my care team just to ensure I was making a fully informed conclusion best for me. It was a really difficult decision, but I feel like it’s the right one for me- no birthing partner, in the middle of separating and moving house, scared of intervention/ not being in control without an advocate etc. I need it to be calm without any trauma. (No other children to look after and help at home afterwards, and I may or may not have another child as already 37 and obvs single.) Everyone has their reasons which are valid to them and no one should ever talk you out of what’s right for you 💞

@Charlotte I keep having panic attacks thinking about birth and I know our bodies are made for it and I’ve heard so many natural birth horror stories x

My advice is to get as much information as you can, I’m still worried I’m doing the right thing (even though I deep down I know I am!) and then you can rest easy you’re doing right by you- no one else matters. You got this 💪🏻

@Shannon contact your midwife for a birth in mind referral. i am on their psychological birth care plan due to my fear of labour and hospitals x
