Breast Thrush

Has anyone had breast thrush and what did you do? My son is BF and I’ve been on antibiotics due to my c section scar becoming infected. Since coming off the antibiotics I’ve been getting stabbing pains in my nipples (for 2 days) and google suggests it’s breast thrush, I know we shouldn’t believe everything on Google but my son now won’t take my breast, I’ve expressed to see if he’l have it in a bottle; which he did but he was pulling faces and then projectile vomited everywhere!!! Can I get an over the counter remedy or is a visit to the doctors required?

Does your son also have thrush in his mouth?

I think the two go hand in hand. And I think it's a prescription from your GP you need

@Fran no he’s absolutely fine at the minute; nothing in his mouth

Could it be vapospasms from the cold - I get that a lot! It turns your nipples white too! Bit like Raynauds x

I just got diagnosed with thrush today! My baby has a thin film of white on his tongue and my nipples are slightly pink and raw with white stuff at the end which I can wipe off. I called my doctors and told them that my midwife had diagnosed me with thrush and that I needed treatment prescribed within the next 24 hours to prevent it from getting worse and compromising baby’s feeding. They sent it off to the pharmacy same day - I have Clomitrazole cream for my nipples and an oral solution for baby (much easier to syringe into a spoon and then use my finger to rub it round his mouth rather than going directly into his mouth!) Good luck hope yours resolves x
