Gestational diabetes test

Hey everyone! Due my 2nd and I've got to have the gestational diabetes test this time around because my first had shoulder dystocia during the birth. Has anyone had this and if you have were you still able to take your usual medication? I'm on anti sickness medication for my HG and nervous to just stop but understand you have to fast from 10pm the night before as my appointment is 9am. I could take the night time tablets at 9pm, just not sure about the morning one!

I'm worried about the same thing! I also didn't realise that it is a blood test and then a 2 hour wait and another blood test - if I don't eat I'm sick even more so that long morning will just be horrific, I don't think I'll be able to keep their sugary drink down long enough. X

I’m worried and exactly the same, feel more sick if I don’t eat something small at least. I think you can have water so I’d imagine tablets would be fine x

Id message the midwife or call doctors, some tablets have sugar in which may cause differences but then I would think the mental impact and physical on yourself of not taking them would be worse x

@Nicola this is exactly what I'm panicking about ahhh! Being hungry makes it sooo much worse. I think I'll give the midwife a call to check! X

@Hannah ahhh this is a good point I never thought of that with the tablets. I'll definitely give the midwife a call i think x

Hey girls! I’m 25 weeks with severe HG. I had my diabetes test two days ago. I took my anti sickness (Xonvea) the night before and also the morning before the test. I was fighting for my life keeping that drink down. I spent most of the 2 hour wait outside in the fresh air with a sick bowl. The minute after they took my second set of bloods I projectile vomitted everywhere and continued to be very poorly the rest of the day due to fasting for so long. If I was to do the test again I’d have taken a protein bar / breakfast bar and nibbled on that after immediately after the test, slowly. Stay away from triggers. If you’re still working (I’m currently on sick) take the whole day off. Hope this helps ☺️❤️❤️❤️

@Charlotte did they say it’s okay to nibble on something like that? That’s really useful to know if so! Xx

I nibbled on it straight after the second set of bloods were taken ☺️ But it’s okay to take anti sickness with plain water when you need it ☺️

Well actually i scoffed it after I got home and was sick 😂

@Charlotte thanks so much lovely! I'm the same on xonvea too so that's great to know. Thank you for the tip and I am off the whole day so will just make sure I'm prepped for the sickness :( xxx
