Toddler

My toddler is 2.5yrs old and she constantly is running away and thinks it’s funny but when I firmly say NO she laughs but I don’t know what to do. I was in Tesco car park the other day taking her coat off to put her in her seat and she just starts to run off. It’s driving me insane now. Please I need help x

No help but my little boy is the same !

Same. My LO has become extremely challenging.

I’m hoping it’s just a phase 😬

We had this and starting putting reigns on (not sure that spelling is right!) He hated them. So we used them as a threat. They’re still in the bag but I can’t remember the last time we needed them. We stick to certain rules, hold hands in car parks, walk next to us on pavement. Stay in same aisle at supermarket. Giving freedom wherever we can but keeping him close where it’s more dangerous.

It is a phase but a dangerous one unfortunately. I would try drop it before it happens. Anticipate when and say when we get out of the car we need to stay still etc. show them the dangers and talk about them before the event. And after but not during. They think it’s a game. You need to move the game to safe place. Once we have our coat on shall we run together holding hands safely? That’s what I’d do with mine and have done in the past. X

Also no help but I am in the exact same boat with my little boy 🫣 I have brought some reigns now just for his safety because he will run off any chance he gets

My little boy is a runner and does exactly the same thing. It was driving me insane. My friend suggest making it into a game and it’s improved massively. At home we practise stopping. I make him run around and when I say stop we both freeze like statues. Once I say “ready steady go” he will start running again. I’ve been doing this when we are out and about, and 90% of the time he stops. Singing baby shark always helps to slow him down because he wants to do the actions. You will look insane but atleast they will be safe. When I take his coat off. I either put him on the seat and take the coat off there or box him in between the car and the car door so he can’t escape.
