Non verbal toddler

Can a 18 month old non verbal, fleeting eye contact, babbling but no words and flapping hands live an independent life. Do early symptoms show higher level of support needed ? Or can this get better?

Talking is what I'd focus on first. Go hard with speech pathology. I've spoken to people who said talking came for their child around 4 years. Early intervention is a key. I'd recommend looking up autistic creators on YouTube. It might help you see what adult autism looks like and dispell some fears around stimming for example. Hang in there. I have a 2 year old who has very little speech at the moment so I totally get it.

My little girl 3 year non-verbal she been diagnosed with austim think can adapted to life they given their other forms communicate skills that can be learnt

@Tammy any recommendations for autistic youtube creators please?

It's too early to tell. My paediatrician didn't diagnose my son until 7. She always told me that children under 5 can have developmental delays and then catch up. Flapping of the hands could be stimming which is a way that an Autistic child regulates their bodies and emotions. Lack of eye contact is also a symptom of autism however I have seen many babies with fleeting eye contact that turned out not to be Autistic. Be sure to be connected with your paediatrician for their opinion and keep reporting what you see. Good luck. Either way you have a beautiful baby that is always your little angel 😇

Yes just give them time and treat it normal it'll only be weird if you make it weird if you treat them differently they'll get stuck on it
