False starts

Does anyone have any advice for false starts at bedtime, we have the same problem every night, he has the same routine which he’s has since he was born but after about 45 mins of being asleep he’s waking up. He’s been fed, clean nappy, swaddled, white noise and a dark room. Just not sure what else to try.

He might not be tired enough, i have the same issue with my girl I just treat it as a nap and keep her up for a bit longer before trying to get her to bed for the night. Recently we have started pushing her bedtime by 15 mins to see if that helps xx

My little one used to do this because he was overtired, would you consider shortening the wake window by 15 minutes and see if it makes a difference? That’s if you follow wake windows x

@Asha yeah we can try this he’s usually around the same time everyday xx

@Amber yeah I might try this and see how he gets on He usually has a nap about 4:30-5 and then his bedtime is 7 so I’d like to think he isn’t overtired but can definitely try bringing it forward x

I’d suggest your LO isn’t tired enough and so treats bedtime like a nap. Try pushing bedtime back slowly x

@Yasmin I’ll try that too but only thing is he naps for 30 mins and wakes up happy when he goes to bed he’ll do 45 mins then wakes up crying. As soon as you settle him he’s back to sleep rather than being wide awake again x

@Sophie what happens after the first wake does he continue to wake or does he sleep a long stretch? x

Is he breastfed? Can happen if baby falls asleep on the breast then wakes up and he’s not on anymore. Sounds like he’s waking fully after just one sleep cycle. Try being there in the room with him and watching him carefully at 35-40 mins and when he rouses from sleep quickly resettle him by patting/rocking/shushing/feeding with the aim of getting him into his next sleep cycle without fully waking x
