Birth control!

Hello! I am wondering what people think about birth control, specifically IUDs. My sister is getting married and doesn’t want to use an IUD because she feels that on rare instances they can cause an abortion (IUD thins uterine lining making it I hospitable for an embryo in the rare chance the IUD doesn’t prevent fertilization). For others that feel this way, what do you use for birth control that you feel DOES align with your convictions? (If you don’t think IUDs can cause abortion, don’t worry about this post - I am one of those people and want my sister to still safely prevent pregnancy in a way that feels comfortable for her) Right now she is planning an aura ring and protection. Thanks!

So research has come forth that it doesn't stop conceptions...aka life...what it does is cause inflammation (ouch) so that your inner environment cannot support the life that was created. It cannot implant and grow. When ppl stop taking it, they need a few months or more for their body to heal so its a conducive environment for growth. Women have basically been uninformed about this truth for yeaaaaars. I took it one month when I was 21 because I was told to in order to reset. Never again after that. I literally cannot trust anything like that entering my body and will never take it.

@🌻Desy🌻 1) this isn’t how an IUD works 2) an iud does not reduce your fertility and you can pregnant the very next month and 3) this wasn’t my question. Just want to be able to support my sister and respect her desire to not use an IUD! She is young and has no desire yet to conceive. But was hoping that if someone held similar beliefs as her, they could share what they use for protection.

Hey! Feel free to reach out to me if you want - and I can give you my phone number if your sister would like to talk - but I'm the same as your sister in this. The year before I got married I did tons of research into all of the bc options, and what I found is that every one of them CAN BE (not always are) abortifacients. I was uncomfortable with that, so I looked into other methods. I now use natural family planning. It gets a bad rap, but when it's done correctly, it's just as effective as other birth control methods. I can give details in a message if you'd like.

@Bethany sorry you went through all of that! Glad you're healed now! I have a friend who had to have a hysterectomy because of the havoc it caused her. I lean towards the natural methods that don't disrupt our God designed nature, as much as possible. There's generally with all things, just too much intervention going on. We know who is trying to change God's design to its core, too, don't we?

@Bethany I have irregular cycles too! We have a couple of safe days after my period, then use condoms until a few days after ovulation. Anyone can use it successfully, even with irregular cycles 😊 You just have to make sure to track all of your symptoms consistently.

Natural Family Planning, Marquette Method, Rhythm Method… These modes of family planning are just as effective as “unnatural” kinds if done diligently. They are equally good at optimizing chances conception as they are at preventing pregnancy. It costs no money, but I use ovulation test strips to be extra sure. It’s a good form of pregnancy avoidance bc it leaves open the ability for God to work if He so chooses and has a plan for you. (i.e. Doing these methods doesn’t abort a “whoopsie baby”) It allows you to continuously say “Not my will but Yours” and unite that to your spousal love. 10/10 would recommend
